Sunday Sweep For Georgian Court Softball

LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 17, 2024) - Georgian Court didn't need luck this St. Patrick's Day as they finished up a busy week with a doubleheader sweep of Mercy. The Lions brought the brooms and the bats winning in walk-off fashion in game one, 6-5 before taking game two, 9-5. The Lions improve to 9-9 on the season.

Game 1 - Georgian Court 6, Mercy 6
How it Happened

• Both teams had double-figure hits with the Lions picking up 11 and the Mavericks 10.
• GCU hit four of their 11 for extra-bases and Mercy knocked three doubles.
• Mercy made two errors in the game, allowing an unearned run to score which proved to be the difference in the ball game.
• Lion pitchers stranded eight runners on base. GCU left five on.
• Georgian Court got a run in the first thanks to a two-out double from Kaitlyn Stufft and RBI single from Jadalynn Rodriguez.
• Again with two outs in the third the Lions struck. Three straight reached as Adriana Mungo singled, Stufft doubled and Jadalynn Rodriguez tripled and GCU was up 3-0 after three.
• Mercy got two of those runs back just a half inning later with some two-out magic of their own. An RBI double and single cut the Lion lead to 3-2.
• The Mavericks then took their first lead with a two-run fifth inning. It could have been more, but GCU stranded two in scoring position to end the inning.
• GCU loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning, but Rodriguez's line drive was caught by the second baseman who flipped to first for an inning-ending double play.
• An RBI ground out gave the Mavericks a 5-3 lead heading to the bottom of the sixth.
• Georgian Court used a lot of small ball in the sixth to tie. Gabriella Aleman's double put runners at second and third with nobody out. Both her and Charlee Mae Sinderud scored on separate wild pitches tying the game at five.
• Mercy went down in order in the top of the seventh. Then with two outs and two on, Aleman ripped a single up the middle and Kaitlyn Stufft, who walked, scampered on home with the game-winning run.
