LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 19, 2024) - Georgian Court Softball squared off with Pace who they met in the 2023 NCAA Regional. The Lions, who won that day in Wilmington, could not repeat as the Setters scored a combined 18 runs in a doubleheader sweep. Georgian Court falls back below .500 at 9-11.
Game 1 - Pace 8, Georgian Court 3
How it Happened
• Strikeouts were a big story in game one. The Lions fanned 10 times against Setter starter Gisselle Garcia. Pace struck out just three.
• Both teams stranded eight runners.
• Pace scored eight runs on nine hits. The Lions picked up eight hits, but just three runs.
• Both teams hit three extra-base hits.
• Pace was active on the basepaths stealing five bases.
• The Setters got on the board first in the second inning. A bases loaded single brought in a run. It could have been more, but the Lions turned their 13th double play of the season to get out of the inning with just the one run given up.
• It stayed 1-0 until the third when
Jadalynn Rodriguez's two-out double to left brought in
Adriana Mungo who also doubled.
• Pace grabbed the lead back an inning later. They put up four in the fourth, one on a sacrifice fly, one on a wild pitch and two on a Kaylee Matsuda double.
• The Setters scored single runs in each of the next three innings to pad their lead. With two outs in the field, a fielding error kept the inning alive. That was followed by a hit-by-pitch and a single to drive in a run.
• Georgian Court put the first two on in the fifth trailing 6-1, but only managed to score once on a sacrifice fly.
• Another two out rally for the Setters in the sixth, back-to-back doubles plated a run. They made it eight on an RBI ground out.

Kaitlyn Stufft lifted a solo shot in the seventh, but it wasn't nearly enough and the game ended two batters later, 8-3.

Janelle Blaszka went the first five innings allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Julia Lapp finished the game throwing the final two giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits with a strikeout.Â

Kaitlyn Stufft homered as part of a 2-4 day.

Adriana Mungo reached three times with a single, double and a walk. She scored twice.

Gabriella Aleman singled and walked.
For the Setters
• Gisselle Garcia got the win striking out 10 in six innings allowing two runs on six hits.
• Sophia Valle finished 3-4 with a run and two RBI.
• Riley Jenkins picked up a pair of hits and scored twice.
• Willa Poplawski scored two runs.
• Jade Alvarado and Kaylee Matsuda drove in two runs each.
Game 2 - Pace 10, Georgian Court 2
How it Happened
• Pace had plenty of baserunners in game two. They picked up 16 hits, 12 of them singles.
• They were also helped out by seven Georgian Court errors, which led to five unearned runs.
• Georgian Court managed just two runs on five hits.
• Neither team drew a walk. The Lions struck out four times and Setters three.
• After scoring in each of the final four innings of game one, Pace kept going in game two, plating a pair in the opening inning.
• Both runners came in a two-out, two-RBI single from Brianna Shea.
• Pace doubled that in the third as this time it was Riley Jenkins turn for a two-out, two-RBI single. The Setters picked up four straight two-out hits to make it 4-0.
• Georgian Court had a hit in each of the first three innings but no runs to show for it.
• In the fourth, the Setters got an unearned run. What looked like a routine, inning-ending ground ball, wasn't caught cleanly at first base allowing a run to score.
• The Lions got one back in the bottom of the inning.

• Both teams got a run in sixth. Pace added one on an RBI ground out.

Adriana Mungo hit a shot to deep center and out for her first home run of the season.
• The Setters big inning came in the seventh. It started with the first two reaching on errors. After two ground outs, an infield single and a three-run home run gave Pace a 10-2 lead.
• GCU went down in order in the seventh to end the game 10-2.

• Kaylee Matsuda reached base three times with two singles and a triple and scored three runs.
• Riley Jenkins singled twice and drove in a pair.

Janelle Blaszka made her 50th appearance all-time in the circle.Â
• Georgian Court is now 6-1 all-time against the Setters. It's the first time they lost to Pace at home.Â
• This is the second consecutive season the Lions have committed seven errors in a game. GCU made seven against Molloy last year, their opponent this upcoming season. The Lions actually still won that game 8-5.
• This is the fifth game this season GCU has allowed 10 or more hits. They're 2-3 in those five.
• After going six straight games making one or fewer errors, the Lions have committed multiple in three straight.Â

Kaitlyn Stufft's hitting streak reaches seven games. But her multiple hit streak ended at six straight.Â
