Halftime Lead Disappears in Lions 16-12 Loss at Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (March 20, 2024) - Georgian Court Women's Lacrosse let a halftime lead slip away at CACC foe Jefferson Wednesday afternoon. The Lions were up four at the break, but were outscored 10-2 in the second half as they fell to the Rams 16-12. The Lions now sit at 1-1 after two conference games and 5-5 overall.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court won the draw control battle 18-14, but turned the ball over 19 times.
• Jefferson finished ahead in shots 31-27.
• The Rams were also the better team on the ground 19-13.
• The game featured 13 total cards with seven on the Rams, six on the Lions. 
First Quarter
• It took Jefferson just 11 seconds into the game to score.
• The lead didn't last long though as GCU netted three straight, one from Riley O'Connor and two from Alyssa Hawley.
• The Rams got one back with 96 seconds to play in the first and the Lions were up by one, 3-2 after one.
Second Quarter
• Early in the second, Bryleigh Tejchman gave GCU a two-goal lead once again.
• Jefferson responded with two straight, tying the game at four still with 11:47 before halftime.
• Georgian Court dominated the middle part of the second quarter. They scored four straight to take an 8-4 lead.
• O'Connor scored her second of the game, and GCU got goals from Caitlin Petrellese, Remi Reinhardt and Gianna Nardini.
• There were four goals in the final three minutes, two from each team. The Rams scored a pair to cut the Lion lead down to two.
• O'Connor scored on the power play with 1:43 left and then again even-strength with 36 seconds as the Lions led 10-6 at the half.
Third Quarter
• The third quarter was all Jefferson. They outscored Georgian Court 6-0. The Rams first goal came at the 9:17 mark and they tied the game at 10 with 6:40 left in the third.
• The score remained tied for a bit until the Rams pulled ahead 11-10 at the 1:09 mark of the third.
• Jefferson added another goal scoring with just 14 seconds left to play and were suddenly up two, 12-10, heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
• After a Jefferson card, GCU had a power play opportunity and Reinhardt converted to get the Lions back to within one.
• It was a one-goal game for more than four minutes, until Jefferson gave them a little breathing room with a goal.
• They scored another just 20 seconds later and then then another eight seconds after that to go up four, 15-11. 
• Another woman-up goal made it 16-11 in favor of the Rams.  
• Reinhardt scored a woman-up power play goal with 11 seconds left, but the Rams still walked away with the 16-12 win.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Riley O'Connor scored four goals and five points.
• Remi Reinhardt added three goals and eight draw controls.
• Alyssa Hawley scored twice in the first quarter.
• Kelsey Naclerio finished with three ground balls.
• Kasha Elzinga caused a pair of turnovers.
• Natalie Moradian made seven saves.

For the Rams
• Carina Raymond finished with a game-high five goals.
• Erin Avanzato added four and two helpers.
• Faith Hardy caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls.
• Gabby Modzelewski also caused three turnovers and scooped two ground balls.
• Kalyn Ammerlaan got the win making 11 saves.

News and Notes
• Remi Reinhardt set a new Georgian Court career draw control record. 
• The Lions nine-game winning streak against Jefferson came to an end. Georgian Court is now 22-5 all-time against the Rams.
• Caitlin Petrellese grabbed her 50th draw control. 
• Georgian Court's five woman-up goals are their most in a game this season.
