Softball Splits With Division I Delaware State

LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 9, 2024) - Georgian Court Softball Opened their 2024 home slate taking on Division I Delaware State. Georgian Court got great pitching allowing just two runs in 14 innings, but came away with a split of the doubleheader. Georgian Court is now 4-8 on the year.

Game 1 - Georgian Court 5, Delaware State 1
How it Happened

• Both teams collected seven hits, but three of the Lions were for extra bases.
• The ball was hit in play often with a total of just four strikeouts and four walks.
• Georgian Court made three errors in the field, but it didn't come back to bite them.
• The game featured eight stolen bases.
• Delaware State left 10 runners on base and the Lions five.
• Delaware State scored their first and only run in the first. Back-to-back one-out singles and an RBI ground out brought in the game's first run.
• GCU did them one better in the home half. After Cheyenne Jackson was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a ground ball, Kaitlyn Stufft drove her in with a double.
• Stufft then came in to score herself on Jadalynn Rodriguez's two-out single to left.
• The score remained that way until the fourth. DSU left runners on in the second, third and fourth but Janelle Blaszka worked around trouble.
• Rodriguez led off the fourth with a low line-drive triple that went to the wall in left. She scored on a ground ball to shortstop from Charlee Mae Sinderud. The Lions scored another run on a productive out as Lia DeMaio's ground out brought home Sinderud for a 4-1 lead.
• Delaware State had their best chance to get back into the game in the sixth. Three of the first four batters all reached base on GCU errors.
• With one out and bases loaded, Gabriella Aleman dove for a low line drive at third base and her momentum carried her glove into a tag of the runner's leg at third base for an inning-ending double play.
• The Hornets again loaded the bases in the seventh with one out, but a ground ball and a lineout ended the game at 5-1.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Jadalynn Rodriguez was 3-3 with a triple, run scored and RBI.
• Kaitlyn Stufft homered as a part of a 2-3 day with two runs and two RBI.
• Charlee Mae Sinderud and Lia DeMaio each drove in a run.
• Janelle Blaszka went the distance in the circle allowing just a run on seven hits with two strikeouts.

• Uxua Modredo-Lopez finished 3-4 with a run scored.

Game 2 - Delaware State 1, Georgian Court 0
How it Happened

• Game two it was the Lions turn to leave runners on base. They stranded eight while the Hornets left six on.
• GCU had just one hit while DSU sprayed six.
• The Lions drew six walks, but struck out seven times. Hornet hitters struck out three times.
• After a quiet first, DSU struck in the second. A leadoff infield single and a one-out double plated the game's only run.
• The Hornets threatened again in the third. A double and a single put two runners in scoring position with nobody out. Kahlen Cornell got out of the jam though with two ground outs and a strikeout.
• In the home half, GCU left the bases loaded. There were three walks in the inning, but with the bases loaded, Sinderud flew out to center to end the inning.
• The game was cruising after that. Georgian Court picked up their first and only hit in the bottom of the fifth. Kaitlyn Stufft stung a ball off the top of the fence in left center. It was hit so hard she only got a single out of it though and was stranded at first.
• GCU got the tying run into scoring position in the seventh with two outs, but Mungo's fly ball found the centerfielder's glove to end the game.

Lion Stat Leaders
