WILMINGTON, Del. (April 10, 2024) - Georgian Court Softball was back on the field Wednesday afternoon against the top team in the CACC. Wilmington came into the doubleheader ranked 22nd overall in the country and flexed their muscle sweeping Georgian Court in both ends of their doubleheader.
Game 1 - Wilmington 8, Georgian Court 0 - 6 Innings
How it Happened
• Wilmington collected 10 hits in six innings while the Lions picked up just three.
• GCU also committed two errors that lead to three unearned runs.
• Georgian Court walked five and struck out one. Wilmington struck out four Lions and walked just two.
• Wilmington ran while stealing six bases.
• Things started off well for the Lions as
Cheyenne Jackson led off the game with a double. She was left stranded on second though.
• Wilmington took advantage of their first inning base runners. Taylor Gillis drove in pair with a two-out, two-RBI single to right.

Janelle Blaszka escaped a jam in the third, stranding a runner on third base.
• The Wildcats were poised for a big fourth inning, loading the bases with one out. Blaszka walked a run in, but it was the only run she allowed.
• Wilmington broke things open in the fifth. A leadoff walk was followed by RBI hits as the Wildcat lead grew to 5-0. They made it 6-0 with a two-out RBI single.
• The game ended in the sixth as Wilmington scored twice more on a two-RBI double to get to 8-0.
Lion Stat Leaders

Janelle Blaszka started in the circle and allowed eight runs, five earned, on 10 hits with a strikeout and five walks.

Cheyenne Jackson finished 1-3 with a double, as did
Jadalynn Rodriguez.

For the Wildcats
• Kylee Gunkel earned the shutout win allowing three hits while striking out four and walking two.
• Taylor Gillis was 3-3 with three RBI.
• Tristyn Stewart finished 2-4 with three stolen bases and two runs scored.
• Julia Thuer drove in a run on two hits.
• Gabriella Saucedo reached base three times with a double and two walks. She drove in two and scored once.
Game 2 - Wilmington 12, Georgian Court 2 - 5 Innings
How it Happened
• Wilmington scored 12 runs on 11 hits with three extra base hits.
• The Lions totaled two runs on four hits, all singles.
• Georgian Court grounded into two double plays.
• Wilmington started out the game with a four-run first. After back-to-back singles to lead off the game, the Wildcats got their first run on a single before Taylor Gillis drove in two with a triple. She came in to score on a ground ball for a 4-0 lead.
• That 4-0 lead ballooned to 9-0 an inning later. A bases loaded double scored the first two in the inning and a single drove in the next two. Seven of the first eight all reached base and another RBI single made it a nine-run game.
• Georgian Court scored two in the top of the third on a two-out, two-RBI single from
Adriana Mungo.
• After the Wildcats went scoreless in the third and fourth innings, they ended the game in the fifth. With two outs and two on, a three run home run to left finished off the ball game, 12-2 in favor of the Wildcats.

• The Lions fall to 16-32 all-time against Wilmington and 2-11 since 2022.
• Against ranked opponents in 2024, GCU is 0-6.
