Blaszka's One-Hitter Nets Lions Split With Felician

LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 11, 2024) - Two very different games were played in the Georgian Court-Felician doubleheader Thursday morning. Moved up because of rain in the forecast, game one started at 10:30 a.m. It seemed like the Lions were more prepared for the early start time as the Felician bats were mostly quiet in game one. They woke up in game two though and the two teams split the doubleheader. Georgian Court is now 13-17 this season and 5-5 in the CACC.

Game 1 - Georgian Court 4, Felician 1
How it Happened

• The Lions allowed just one hit while picking up five themselves.
• Despite just the one hit, Felician had action on the bases thanks to six walks and a hit by pitch.
• GCU pitched out of trouble stranding eight base runners. The Lions left four on base.
• Each team made two errors in the field leading to an unearned run.
• The Lions stole four bases and the Golden Falcons two.
Janelle Blaszka set the Golden Falcons down in order in the first. The Lions got her a run in their first trip to the plate as Cheyenne Jackson walked, stole second and scored on Adriana Mungo's double to right.
• Blaszka had to work through a lot of trouble in the second and third innings. Felician loaded the bases with one out in each inning, but Blaszka struck out the final two to end the second and got a strike out and a line out to end the third.
• GCU tacked on in the second on a double steal attempt. Jayda Jones came in to score as Jackson stole second and it was 2-0 Lions.
• Felician scored in the fifth without the benefit of a hit. An error started the inning and a sacrifice bunt pushed the runner over. She then stole third and the throw got away and trickled towards the third base dugout allowing the runner to score.
• Georgian Court answered right away getting the run back plus one more. Mungo went opposite field this time for her second RBI double of the game to score Lia DeMaio who reached on a bunt single. Mungo came in to score herself on a sacrifice fly.
• The Golden Falcons brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth with a pair of two-out walks, but Blaszka squashed that threat as well with a strikeout to end the inning.
• Blaszka set the Falcons down in order in the seventh to finish the game.

Game Two
How it Happened
• After hits were hard to come by in game one, they were aplenty in game two. Felician scored 11 runs on 15 hits. The Lions punched 11 hits scoring six runs.
• Georgian Court made three early errors in the field which let in four unearned runs.
• Of Felician's 15 hits, five were doubles. GCU hit two doubles and a home run.
• Each team left nine runners on base.
• The scoring started early with Felician getting an unearned run in the first. GCU made two errors in the inning, allowing one run to score.
• Georgian Court responded putting up four in the first. Adriana Mungo walked in front of Kaitlyn Stufft who after fouling off seven pitches took the 11th pitch of the at bat over the fence for a two-run home run.
• The inning continued with two two-out walks followed by RBI hits from Brittany Gable and Lia DeMaio to make it 4-0 after one.
• Felician had their biggest inning in the second scoring five runs on five hits plus a GCU error. A bases loaded walk scored the first run, followed by a run-scoring single. A ground ball tied the game at four and Felician took a 6-4 lead on a two-RBI double.
• It could have been more but DeMaio threw out a runner trying to score from second on a single.
• In the home half of the second, GCU tied the game at six. Mungo lifted another RBI double to score Jackson and Jadalynn Rodriguez switched places with her tying the game.
