LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 16, 2024) - Georgian Court Softball earned two important wins Tuesday with a sweep of Goldey-Beacom.
Gabriella Aleman's walk off home run in game one was the difference and
Brittany Gable's home run in game two gave the Lions the lead for good. The Lions pitching was up to the task as well as GCU moves to .500 at 18-18 on the season and 10-6 in the CACC.
Game 1 - Georgian Court 3, Goldey-Beacom 2
How it Happened
• Georgian Court scored three runs on four hits.
• Three of the four went for extra bases with
Charlee Mae Sinderud collecting doubles and
Gabriella Aleman a home run.
• Each team committed an error leading to an unearned run.
• Each team issued only one walk. GCU struck out seven times and the Lightning just three.
• Goldey-Beacom started the scoring right away. With two out and two on, an infield single scored one run and
Cheyenne Jackson's throw went wide of first base allowing a second run to score, giving the Lightning and pitching Abigail O'Shields a 2-0 lead before she threw a pitch.
• GCU got one of those runs back in the home half of the inning. With two outs,
Charlee Mae Sinderud's poke into right field fell into no-mans-land allowing
Adriana Mungo to score.
• The Lions tied it an inning later as
Brittany Gable led off with a double. She came into to after
Lia DeMaio dropped down a bunt and the throw went into the outfield.
• Both teams went down in order in the third and fourth innings. In the fifth, Goldey-Beacom had a golden opportunity to take the lead. A single and double put two runners in scoring position with one out. The Lightning had trouble all day with bunting. This attempt didn't get far enough away from the catcher who got the runner at third in a run down for one out. The runner at second then strayed too far and head's up
Lia DeMaio, from center field, got behind the runner and slapped the tag on for the inning-ending double play.
• Still tied 2-2 in the top of the seventh, Lapp worked around two in scoring position with two outs, getting McKenna Frank to ground out to end the inning.
• O'Shields had retired 15 straight Lions entering the top of the seventh.
Gabriella Aleman led off the inning and drove an 0-2 pitch deep to right that ticked off the left fielder's glove and over the fence for a walk-off home run.

• McKenna Frank finished 2-4. She was the only player on either side with multiple hits. She also scored a run.
• Alex Lowry singled and scored.
• Mo Scott drove in a run with a single.
Game 2 - Georgian Court 5, Goldey-Beacom 3
How it Happened
• After game one saw just 11 total hits, game two nearly doubled that with 21.
• GCU had 10 and three extra-base hits. GBC collected 11 and three for extra bases as well.
• Both teams worked around a lot of base runners. The Lions stranded 11 on base while Goldey-Beacom left 10.
• Lion batters walked seven times and struck out four. GBC walked just once with three strikeouts.
• Again GBC scored in the opening inning McKenna Frank led off with a loud double and scored three batters later on another double from Bryn Bohmann.
• The Lions answered right away as
Kaitlyn Stufft drove in
Adriana Mungo with a double of her own.
• Each team stranded multiple runners on base in the third, but the score stayed 1-1 until the fourth.

Brittany Gable broke the tie with her first home run of the season, a shot to center to lead off the inning.
• The Lions tacked on another as Stufft drove in
Isabella Molina who walked and it was 3-1 GCU.
• After GBC left the bases loaded in the fifth, the Lions added two more runs. With the bases loaded, Molina's flair fell in just over the second base bag. The runner on first had to hold and was out at second but Aleman was able to come in and score. Jackson then singled to right as Gable came in to score for a 5-1 lead.
• The Lighting struck in the sixth and seventh, but just for one run in each inning. Mo Scott brought some thunder to the lightning with a long home run to deep left leading off the sixth. They got the tying run to the plate, but Blaszka induced a ground ball to end the inning.
• An outfield assist nabbed Stufft trying to score from third on a fly ball to end the sixth as GCU still was up 5-2.
• Blaszka got the first two out in the seventh before running into trouble. A walk and back-to-back singles brought in a run and put the tying runs on base. Blaszka again remained calm and got a ground ball to end the game, 5-3.
Lion Stat Leaders

Janelle Blaszka scattered 11 hits but only three runs while striking out three.
•
Brittany Gable finished a triple shy of the cycle going 3-4 with two runs scored, a home run and an RBI.

Kaitlyn Stufft was 3-4 with two runs batted in.

Jadalynn Rodriguez collected two hits and a stolen base.
•
Isabella Molina singled, walked, scored a run and drove one in.
For the Lightning
• Mo Scott hit a long home run as part of a 3-4 day.
• Reyna Pelcak knocked a pair of singles.
• McKenna Frank was 2-4 with a run scored and a double.
• Audi Simpson singled and drove in one.
• Morgan McLane started and went 4.1 allowing all five runs on seven hits with six walks and three strikeouts.
News and Notes
• This is Aleman's first walk off home run of the season, but not her first walk-off hit. She also hit the game-ender against Mercy in March.
• All-time Georgian Court is now 32-6 against the Lightning and 29-2 since 2009.
• Georgian Court gave up runs in the first inning of both games, but just in two more of the other 12.
• Goldey-Beacom got the leadoff hitter on base in seven of the 14 innings played.
Up Next
• Georgian Court will get three days off which must feel like an eternity for them. They'll be back on the field Saturday, April 20 against Chestnut Hill. They'll also hold a special senior day ceremony prior to the game.
