Lions Split With Chestnut Hill on Senior Day

LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 20, 2024) - It was a special day for the Georgian Court Lions Softball team who prior to their doubleheader honored their six-woman senior class with a special on-field ceremony. Once the pomp and circumstance was finished there were two games to be played. The Lions, fighting for a top-four spot in the CACC Tournament split with Chestnut Hill, winning game one 8-1, but dropping an extra-inning affair 3-2 in eight. That keeps GCU at .500 at 19-19 this season and 11-7 in the CACC. 

Game 1 - Georgian Court 8, Chestnut Hill 1
How it Happened

• Georgian Court outhit the Griffins 11-6.
• Chestnut Hill committed two errors which led to three unearned runs. GCU played a clean game in the field.
• GCU didn't walk or strikeout a batter. The Lions walked three times and struck out just once.
• The Lions stranded seven runners and the Griffins six.
• After a scoreless first inning, the Lions got on the board in the second. Isabella Molina drove in Charlee Mae Sinderud with the games first run.
• GCU put up a four-spot in the third. Back-to-back doubles from Kaitlyn Stufft and Jadalynn Rodriguez brought the first run in.
• A passed ball, plus RBI's from Lia DeMaio and another from Molina gave the Lions a 5-0 lead after three.
• A wild pitch brought home Georgian Court's sixth run before the Griffins Mianna Lopez Del Haro broke up the shutout bid with a long home run to left center.
• An errors in the bottom of the sixth brought home two more Lion runs.
• Lapp got through the seventh 1-2-3 to finish off the 8-1 win.

Lion Stat Leaders
Charlee Mae Sinderud had a three-hit day going 3-4 with three runs scored.
Lia DeMaio was 1-2 with two runs driven in.
Kaitlyn Stufft doubled and scored.
Adriana Mungo and Gabriella Aleman were both 1-3 with a run scored.
Julia Lapp got the win in the circle throwing all seven innings allowing one run on six hits.  

For the Griffins
• Mianna Lopez Del Haro homered as part of a two-hit day.
• Gabby Quinones allowed eight runs, five earned on 11 hits with a strikeout in six innings.
Camille Dunham had a hit and a stolen base. 

Game 2 - Chestnut Hill 3, Georgian Court 2 - 8 Innings
How it Happened

• Chestnut Hill outhit the Lions 8-6.
• Both teams had plenty of baserunners as CHC stranded 10 and the Lions six.
Janelle Blaszka threw a lot of pitches. 160 as she walked four and struck out seven. GCU hitters walked and struck out just once.
• CHC again made two errors and it led to an unearned run. The Lions one errors also led to unearned Griffin run.
Kaitlyn Stufft got the scoring going right from the jump. Her first inning home run put the Lions ahead 1-0.
• Chestnut Hill responded with a run in the top of the second. An error put two on and with no out for the Griffins. After a wild pitch moved them up, a ground ball to third brought in a run for the Griffins. 
• Still tied at one in the bottom of the third, Adriana Mungo's hot shot to first allowed Alyssa Herrera to score from third. Griffin first baseman Kayla Rolon did all she could to get a glove on it, mostly in self preservation as it fell behind her for a hit.
• Just like they did after the Lions got their first run, the Griffins answered in the next half inning. A one-out single plated a run to tie the game at two.
• That's how the game stayed through seven. Georgian Court left two on base in the fourth as Isabella Molina's rope was gloved by the shortstop. CHC stranded two in the six as Blaszka worked out of a jam with a pair of punchouts.
• In the eighth, a one-out walk put a runner on for the Griffins. A sacrifice bunt moved her to second and a bloop single to right just fell in front of Sinderud to bring in a run for the Griffins.
• GCU put a runner on in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't get her in and the Griffins earned the 3-2 win and the split.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Blaszka threw 160 pitches to get through eight innings allowing eight hits and three runs, two earned. She struck out seven and walked four.
Kaitlyn Stufft finished 2-4 with a home run.
Adriana Mungo singled and drove in a run.
Alyssa Herrera scored in three at bats.
Cheyenne Jackson, Jadalynn Rodriguez and Charlee Mae Sinderud all had singles.

For the Griffins
• Michelle Baker got the win throwing all eight innings and allowing two runs, one earned on six hits with a walk and a strikeout.
• Ami Guzman had two hits and two runs scored.
• Jazmine Ramirez singled twice and drove in a run.
• Maya Kemper was 1-4 with two RBI including the game winner. 

News and Notes
• Her three hits in game one match a single-game high for Charlee Mae Sinderud.
Alyssa Herrera played in her first game since March 9 against Delaware State. 
Janelle Blaszka moved to eighth all-time at GCU in the NCAA era in innings pitched.
• Georgian Court had won 13 straight over Chestnut Hill before this afternoon's loss. They move to 27-3 all-time against CHC. 

Up Next
• No rest for Georgian Court. They have a nonconference doubleheader with Adelphi tomorrow. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
