ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY (April 17, 2024) - Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse held an 8-7 lead after three quarters at Molloy, but were outscored 6-0 in the fourth and fell in the battle of the Lions 13-8. Georgian Court falls to 8-7 with the loss.
How it Happened
• Faceoff numbers were split in half with each team winning 12.
• Each team committed plenty of turnovers. GCU lost the ball 27 times and Molloy 24.
• Georgian Court struggled on clear attempts, successfully clearing just 16-26. Molloy cleared 14-19.
• Molloy was the quicker team on the ground getting to 41-of-71 ground balls.
• Both teams took one 30 second penalty and both teams killed it off.
• Molloy led in the shot department 41-36 and shots on goal 28-20.
First Quarter
• Molloy got on top early scoring three goals in the first four minutes.
• The first came right off the opening faceoff just 46 seconds in.
• They made it 2-0 65 seconds later and then 3-0 after Georgian Court failed to clear.
• GCU finally got on the board at the 5:53 mark of the first as
Matt Dorrian scored this time after Molloy failed to clear.
• Georgian Court had a couple chances in the closing minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net and first quarter ended with Molloy up 3-1.
Second Quarter
• Trailing 3-1, Georgian Court got back into the game with a four-goal second quarter.

Doug Mackenzie cut the lead down to one, 3-2 scoring at the 13:06 mark after
Vincent Burkhart made a save on the other end.
• It went back to a 4-2 lead after another GCU failed clear.
• Goals started coming fast and furious as the Lions put four goals into the net, but only scored three.

James Sanford made it a 4-3 game from
Tallen Smith's feed at the 7:11 mark.
• Just 12 seconds later,
Kyle Harms beat the goaltender, however, the goaltender he beat, was his own. In traffic at the blue restraining line, Harms tried to pass back to Burkhart but his pass short-hopped the goaltender and got by him for an own goal and a 5-3 Molloy lead.
• GCU didn't get down though. They scored the next two just 50 seconds apart.

• In the final minute, Molloy went back on top, ending the period by scoring with 18 seconds left. They nearly got another, but two shots in the final 10 seconds said wide and it was a 6-5 Molloy lead at the break.
Third Quarter
• Molloy made it a two-goal lead again scoring in the first five minutes for a 7-5 lead.
• The score stayed that way until under three minutes left to play.
• Molloy took a penalty giving GCU an extra-man opportunity. Although Georgian Court didn't score with the man-advantage, they kept possession taking six shots and finally, Mackenzie hit paydirt getting it back to one, 7-6.
• Off a failed clear, Georgian Court tied the game at seven as
Vincent Burns caused a turnover, picked up the ground ball and scored, evening the game at seven.
• In the final seconds, Georgian Court ran down the field and
Tallen Smith's bounce shot just beat the buzzer and the goaltender, giving the Lions an 8-7 lead after three.
Fourth Quarter
• Georgian Court led by one heading into the fourth, but that lead didn't last long. Molloy evened things up at eight 80 seconds into the period.
• With a little over 10 minutes left, Molloy took the lead back with a goal following a Georgian Court turnover.
• They continued to tack on scoring four more goals in a 3:22 span.
• Molloy's defense kept Georgian Court off the board the entirety of the fourth quarter as they went on to win 13-8.

Tallen Smith scored his 100th career goal. Just the third Lion to ever reach the century mark.
• The game was the final nonconference game for Georgian Court. They finished the season at 3-5 in nonconference contests.
• Georgian Court is now 3-6 all-time against Molloy and have dropped two straight.
