Softball Swept In Regular Season Finale

LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 24, 2024) - The 2024 regular season ended on a sour note for Georgian Court Softball. The Lions were swept at Holy Family, losing 8-2 and 4-2, but did see the crowning of a new GCU career RBI queen. With the losses, the regular season ends with the Lions at 20-24 and 12-10 in the CACC.

Game 1 - Holy Family 8, Georgian Court 2
How it Happened

• Holy Family scored eight runs on 15 hits. 
• The Lions collected 10 hits but scored just twice leaving nine runners on base.
• Georgian Court made three errors in the field leading to five unearned runs. Neither of the Tigers errors led to an unearned run.
• The Lions got on the board first scoring in their first trip to the plate. A two-out RBI single from Jadalynn Rodriguez scored Adriana Mungo with the game's first run.
• GCU nearly made it 2-0 in the third, but Mungo was thrown out at the plate trying to score from first on Kaitlyn Stufft's double.
• In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers made GCU pay for an error on the infield scoring three unearned runs and taking a 4-1 lead.
• Stufft made it a two-run game with a solo home run in the fifth. But Holy Family answered with a three-run home run of their own going up 7-2.
• They tacked on another run on a base loaded walk and took game one 8-2.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Kaitlyn Stufft finished 3-4 with a home run.
• Adriana Mungo was 2-3 with a double and a run scored.
• Jadalynn Rodriguez had a single and an RBI along with a stolen base.
• Gabriella Aleman reached twice with a single and a hit by pitch.
• Julia Lapp allowed eight runs, three earned on 15 hits in six innings with four strikeouts and two walks.

For the Tigers
• Makenna Patterson tossed a complete game allowing two runs on 10 hits with a strikeout.
• Jaden Kelly was 3-3 with a run scored.
• Carlie Miller picked up three hits and drove in a run.
• Kylee Jones homered and drove in three.
• Lindsey Gorka doubled and scored twice.

Game 2 - Holy Family 4, Georgian Court 2
How it Happened

• Holy Family scored all four runs in the sixth picking up nine hits, two for extra bases.
• GCU scored twice on six hits including a home run.
• The Lions played a clean game in the field. HFU made one errors and allowed an unearned run.
• It was a scoreless game until the fourth. Holy Family loaded the bases in the second and third innings but Janelle Blaszka escaped unharmed in each. In the third with the bases loaded and no outs, she struck out the next three to retire the side. 
• Georgian Court broke through for a run as Jadalynn Rodriguez's two-out home run gave the Lions a 1-0 lead.
• The Lions made it 2-0 in the sixth on Kaitlyn Stufft's RBI single to score Adriana Mungo with an unearned run.
• Trailing 2-0, Holy Family put the first two on in the bottom of the sixth. A one-out walk loaded the bases before a single cut the lead to 2-1. One batter later, a double just inside the left field line scored two to give HFU a 3-2 lead. They added one more on a sacrifice fly and turned a two-run deficit into a two-run lead after six.
• In the seventh, the Lions started a mini two-out rally with a walk and a single to put the tying run on base. Mungo's hard hit ball to center though was caught for the game's final out.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Janelle Blaszka allowed four runs on nine hits with six strikeouts. She walked three and struck out four.
• Jadalynn Rodriguez homered.
• Cheyenne Jackson reached base four times with two singles and two walks.
• Kaitlyn Stufft singled and drove in a run.

For the Tigers
• K Hall threw all seven innings allowing two runs, one earned on six hits with six strikeouts.
• Alexis Letizia doubled and drove in a pair.
• Jaden Kelly singled twice, drove in a run and scored.
• Lily Hoban singled, doubled and drove in a run. 

News and Notes
• Kaitlyn Stufft's home run gave her 186 runs batted in for her career, a new Georgian Court record.
• After winning 12 straight against the Tigers, GCU is 1-3 in their last four. All-time they're 30-12.
• With the regular season over for the Lions, they'll finish as the No. 6 seed in the CACC Tournament beginning this Saturday.

Up Next
• The No. 6 seeded Lions will play at No. 3 seed Goldey-Beacom Saturday, April 27. Game time is to be determined. Georgian Court needs to win back-to-back games against the Lightning to advance to the semifinals. One loss in two games will eliminate the Lions.
