LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 5, 2024) - It was another historic night in Lakewood for Georgian Court Acrobatics and Tumbling who earned their first win in program history. The Lions took on LIU and Stevenson in a tri-meet and scored a season-high 180.480 points, nipping Stevenson by just 3.405 who scored 177.075. LIU scored a meet-high 240.565.

In the compulsory event, Georgian Court started out with a 24.60 score in the four heats. They scored 8.95 for the pyramid and 8.40 for the toss. The 24.60 total score is their highest this season as is the 8.95 in the pyramid heat. LIU totaled 34.70 in compulsory and Stevenson 19.60.

Moving over to the acro event, the Lions 7.95 in the five-element was their best score this season as was the 6.70 in the six-element. The Lions totaled 19.55 points for the event. The Sharks finished with 26.35 points and Stevenson totaled 22.10.

Finishing up the first half, Georgian Court had a big season-best score in the pyramid event scoring 24.40. In the inversion pyramid they put up a season-best score of 8.75 points. They then scored 7.15 in the synchronized and finished with another season-best 8.50 in the open pyramid. LIU scored 27.50 for the pyramid and Stevenson 24.80.

At halftime, LIU was in the lead having scored 88.55. Georgian Court totaled 68.55 through three events and Stevenson 66.50.

To start the second half, Georgian Court scored 21.40 in the toss event. They picked up 7.40 in the 450 salto, 6.55 in the synchronized and 7.45 in the open. LIU scored 24.90 and Stevenson 20.90. 

Georgian Court started out the tumbling event setting a season-best. Gianna Mirassol and Louanne Legregin totaled 8.00, their first time scoring 8.00 in the pass. Cara Catalano, Legregin and Caroline Yacullo totaled 5.90 in the trio pass and Catalano, Yacullo, Katelyn Meyer and Mia Zdanowicz scored a season-best 5.45 in the quad pass to wrap up synchronized passes. It was GCU's first time scoring greater than 5.0 in the quad pass.

In the individual tumbling passes, Gianna Mirassol scored a 7.975 in the aerial pass. Louanne Legregin scored 8.425 in the six-element and Cara Catalano scored 7.10 in the open pass. The Lions 42.850 is a new season-high score. LIU totaled 50.725 and Stevenson 36.875.

Heading into the team event, LIU had a team total of 164.175, Stevenson 124.275 and Georgian Court 132.800.

The final team event saw the Sharks score 76.39, Stevenson 52.80 and Georgian Court 47.68. Even though the Lions had the lowest team score, it was enough to hold on for a victory over Stevenson.

Following the meet, which is the last of their inaugural season, Georgian Court honored their senior class: Alyssa Almerigotti, Sofia Atiles, Cara Catalano and Destani Diaz.

It feels amazing. We came in with this mentality that we were going to execute the way we've been the rest of the season. We came, we had fun and I think we did very well. It's an amazing feeling.

It was definitely suspenseful. The anticipation was crazy. Stevenson and Georgian Court were neck and neck the entire meet. So the team event was make or break and we were hoping for the win.

This is honestly a remarkable feeling. This is a better feeling than winning for myself. Seeing them put in so much work every single day and work though injuries and adversity. For them to win is proving to themselves how good they are and how we need to keep pushing to keep these wins coming. It's an amazing feeling. I cannot be happier.

On the feeling waiting for final scores to be announced
I was nervous. I knew it was very close. Stevenson is a really good program. We knew it was going to be neck and neck and we were waiting to see what the score was going to be but I had a really good feeling. We came in today preparing to win and we were able to execute. So I'm happy with the final scores.
