Thirteen Run Game Two Earns GCU Softball Split at Dominican

ORANGEBURG, NY (April 8, 2024) - Georgian Court Softball played an early morning doubleheader at Dominican to avoid this afternoon's solar eclipse. The Lions earned a split with the Chargers and move to 12-14 on the year, 4-2 in the CACC.

Game Two - Georgian Court 13, Dominican 1 - 5 Innings
How it Happened

• The Lions came out swinging in game two, scoring in four of the five innings and putting up 13 runs on 13 hits.
• Dominican mustered just three hits and one run.
• GCU also drew five walks in the game and struck out just once. The Lions didn't walk a batter and struckout three Charger hitters.
• The first six Lions all reached base to start the game. The first four all scored on Jadalynn Rodriguez's grand slam and Georgian Court gave Julia Lapp a 4-0 lead before she threw a pitch.
• Lapp got plenty of run support, even though it wasn't needed. She held the Chargers to just three hits in five innings, giving up a run in the fourth when the Lions were already ahead 12-0.
• The Lions put up a six spot in the second, getting five straight RBI singles from Charlie Mae Sinderud, Gabriella Aleman, Brittany Gable, Jayda Jones and Isabella Molina. Rodriguez had a chance for two grand slams in back-to-back innings, but popped up.
• Aleman tacked on two more runs in the third with a bases loaded double and Kaitlyn Stufft put the finishing touches on the game with a solo home run in the fifth.

Lion Stat Leaders
Julia Lapp got her second consecutive win allowing a run on three hits with three walks and no strikeouts.
Gabriella Aleman finished 3-3 with a run and three RBI.
Adriana Mungo scored three times going 2-3.
Kaitlyn Stufft reached base four times and scored each time. She walked in each of her first three at bats, then homered in her fourth.
Charlee Mae Sinderud was 2-2 with a walk, run scored and an RBI.
Jadalynn Rodriguez got it all started with a first inning grand slam.

For the Chargers
• Heylee Ridge doubled and drove in a run.
• Giovanna Salcido doubled and scored.
• Emily Null pitched 3.2 innings of relief allowing three runs on four hits.

Game 1 - Dominican 4, Georgian Court 3
How it Happened

• While the bats were on fire in game two, they started out ice cold, with the exception of one big one.
• GCU managed just four hits, three coming from Kaitlyn Stufft who drove in all three runs as well.
• Lion hitters struck out eight times and walked just twice. Dominican fanned once and were issued four walks.
• After two scoreless innings, Dominican got on the board with a solo home run in the third.
• Georgian Court answered an inning later. Adriana Mungo drew a walk and Kaitlyn Stufft gave the Lions the lead with a two-run home run.
• Stufft homered in her next at bat as well in the sixth for a 3-1 Lion lead.
• In the home half of the sixth, the Chargers got the first two on via walk and a single. Just like against Caldwell yesterday, Lia DeMaio made a strong through home to catch the runner from second trying to score on a single and GCU appeared to escape the damage.
• But Dominican picked up back-to-back RBI singles to tie and sacrifice fly put the Chargers up 4-3 after the sixth.
Isabella Molina was the first Lion not named Kaitlyn Stufft to get a hit with two outs in the seventh. Jayda Jones pinch hit and put a charge into one, but her fly ball was caught in right field for the game's final out.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Stufft finished 3-3 with two home runs and three RBI.
Adriana Mungo walked and scored.
Isabella Molina singled.
Janelle Blaszka pitched all six innings allowing four runs on nine hits.

For the Chargers
• Emily Baxter struck out eight and allowed three runs on four hits in seven innings.
• Haylee Ridge was 2-3 with a run scored.
• Madison Walker walked and homered.
• Emily Angulo finished 1-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

News and Notes
• All nine starters got a hit for Georgian Court in game two.
Kaitlyn Stufft surpassed 40 career home runs, just the fourth Lion to ever do that. She reached base in all seven plate appearances today.
• This is the first time GCU has scored 10+ runs in 18 games.
• The Lions were 6-7 in game two with the bases loaded and Rodriguez's grand slam was the Lions first of the season.
Julia Lapp's three strikeouts are a career-best.
