Previously vs. Kutztown
• Though they play in different conferences (and NCAA regions), the Georgian Court and Kutztown have grown to be familiar foes.
• This will be the sixth straight season (COVID 2020 season not withstanding) that these two teams have met dating back to 2018.
• During those five matches, GCU is 2-3 and 2-4 overall against Kutztown.
• The teams have traded wins back and forth each of the last five seasons with the home team going 4-1 during that stretch.
• Last season the Golden Bears got the better of the Lions with a 3-0 sweep, 25-19, 25-16, 25-17.
• The Lions struggled offensively hitting .105 while Kutztown hit better than .300 at .309 for the match.
•
Nylene Mateo landed eight kills with two service aces.
Giorgia Cappelletti added seven kills.
Last Time Out
• Georgian Court got the 2024 season underway this past weekend at the Embry-Riddle Bahama House Classic.
• The Lions took on three teams from the southern part of the country: host Embry-Riddle, Flagler and UNC-Pembroke.
• It wasn't the start to the season the Lions hoped for, dropping all three games in straight sets.
• In their final game against UNC-Pembroke, two of the three sets were determined by just two points, but those both fell to the Braves.
•
Martina Croce and
Chelsea Ross each landed 19 kills on the weekend.
Individual Milestones
•
Nylene Mateo needs five more kills to enter the Lions all-time top-four in kills.
•
Ava Venneri is nearing 200 points with 178.5 and 200 digs with 191.
•
Amiyah Woods needs four more points to reach 500 for her career.
•
Iciar Zayas needs 39 assists to reach 1500 in her career. She'd be just the sixth Lion to ever hit that number.
CACC Leaders
•
Giorgia Cappelletti ranks sixth in the CACC with 0.56 service aces per set and her five total aces rank 10th.
• Offensively, GCU is sixth in the league with 295 total attacks.
About Kutztown
• Just like Georgian Court, Kutztown got their season started last weekend and went 0-3.
• The Golden Bears played some familiar opponents, falling to CACC foes Felician and Holy Family.
• Last season, Kutztown finished 10-17 and 3-11 in the PSAC East. They were picked to finish seventh this year in the eight-team division.
• The Golden Bears have 10 freshmen on the roster as they're looking towards youth to return to the PSAC Tournament.
• Sarah Hess has led the offense through three matches with 23 kills and is hitting .180. The team as a whole is hitting just .046 with 85 attack errors.
• Kutztown has been sound defensively averaging 19.09 digs per set. Lexi McLanahan has 65 and averages 5.91 digs per set.
