Volleyball Upended by CACC South Leading Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE (Oct. 21, 2025) - Georgian Court Volleyball had a tall task facing the CACC South Division leading Wilmington Wildcats. GCU did themselves no favors getting down early in all four sets and although they were able to get close and even come back in one, it was ultimately too much in a 3-1 loss to the Wildcats.

How it Happened
• Wilmington hit .243 for the match while the Lions wre at .109.
• The Wildcats hit 10 more kills and nine fewer attack errors.
• Wilmington had a big advantage on the serve. They landed 13 aces to GCU's six.
• On the block, Wilmington put back eight and GC, three.

1st Set
• Wilmington pulled ahead early and were off and running in the first set.
• Tied at two, the Wildcats went on an 8-2 run to take a 10-4 lead and force a GCU timeout.
• Now trailing 14-5, the Lions attempted a comeback, scoring three straight with a pair of kills and Amber Gallo service ace. That mini rally was all the Wildcats allowed as they responded with three straight of their own, on their way to a 25-14 set one win.
• Wilmington hit .423 in the set with 11 kills and zero attack errors. The Lions hit seen attack errors.
• GCU also didn't help themselves with three service errors while Wilmington landed four aces.
2nd Set
• Once again, Wilmington took an early lead. This time they started out by scoring four of the first five points.
• Georgian Court cut the deficit down to one, 5-4, scoring three straight, but the Wildcats used a 7-1 run for a commanding 12-5 early lead as GCU called timeout.
• After the Lions called timeout, the teams were trading points back-and-forth for a while, which wasn't good for GCU as time was running out.
• The Lions trailed as much as nine, 21-12, but they didn't quit. They went on a 5-1 run and cut the lead down to five, 22-17, and a service ace from Maggy Hallihan forced a Wildcat timeout.
• After the break, Wilmington finished off the set, 25-18 for a 2-0 lead.
3rd Set
• For the third straight set, Wilmington got out fast, jumping out to a 5-1 lead.
• Georgian Court chipped away at the lead, cutting it down to one, 6-5, before finally tying things at 9-9.
• Wilmington responded scoring three straight. That was the start of a 10-5 run that saw the Wildcats take their largest lead, 19-14.
• Georgian Court had a big answer though. They scored seven straight to not only tie, but take their first lead, 21-19. They pushed that lead to 23-20 before Wilmington needed a timeout.
• Wilmington brought the Lion lead back down to one, but a kill from Emily Hauptvogel kept the Lions alive, 25-23.
4th Set
• That positive momentum from the set three win went out the window at the start of set four.
• Wilmington got out to another big lead, 7-1 and then 10-2.
• GCU is proving no lead is safe though, and a 4-0 run with a pair of Jenna Heiser service aces cut the lead down to four, 13-9.
• The Wildcats seemed to take control back, bringing the lead back to seven, 20-13, but GCU scored four straight and suddenly it was three-point game, 20-17.
• The early hole GCU dug proved to be too much though and Wilmington was able to hang on, 25-18 to win the match in four sets.
