Volleyball Returns Home With Four-Set Win Over Chestnut Hill

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Oct. 29, 2025) - Georgian Court Volleyball snapped a small three-game losing streak Wednesday, defeating Chestnut Hill in four sets. The Lions took the opening frame then sets three and four, winning 25-16, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19 to improve to 4-7 in the CACC.

How it Happened
• Both teams hit below .100 for the match. The Lions hit .089 with 35 kills and 24 errors. The Griffins hit more kills, 41, but also hit 38 attack errors.
• Georgian Court was able to score a lot of points on the serve. GCU was a +13 hitting 10 aces with seven errors while CHC hit just four aces and 14 service errors.
• The Lions also put back 16 blocks and the Griffins hit just six. 
• Georgian Court's defense picked up 69 blocks. CHC scooped 58. 

Set 1
• Georgian Court jumped out to a 2-0 lead and led wire-to-wire.
• The Lions pushed that lead to 10-3 after a Brooke Bowbliss service ace and CHC needed a timeout.
• Georgian Court upped their lead to as much as nine in the set and never let the Griffins fight their way back in.
• Kyla Davis ended the set with a kill, 25-16.
• Georgian Court hit six blocks in the set while also getting two aces and four CHC service errors.
Set 2
• It looked like the Lions might roll in set two as well scoring the first three points.
• But Chestnut Hill was able to rally and took an 8-6 lead scoring six straight.
• The Griffins built their lead to as much as six, 17-11, when GCU started to comeback.
• The Lions used a 9-4 run to get to within one, 21-20, following a Maggy Hallihan service ace.
• That's as close as the Lions got though as CHC finished the set scoring four of the final six points to even the match with a 25-22 win.
• Georgian Court struggled offensively with seven kills and 10 attack errors. That allowed CHC to win the set despite hitting .045.
Set 3
• The Griffins got out to a small lead in set three, scoring four of the first five.
• GCU tied at four, five and six, before finally taking a 7-6 lead on a Griffin attack error.
• That started an 11-5 run for the Lions who pushed their lead to six, 17-11.
• CHC wasn't able to recover and Davis ended set three just like set one with a kill, her third of the frame.
Set 4
• Just like in set one, GCU led wire-to-wire to end the match.
• The Lions scored the first five points, helped out by three CHC attack errors.
• A 4-1 Griffin run brought made things a bit tighter at 15-12.
• Georgian Court responded though by scoring six-of-eight and cruising to a 25-19 match victory.
• Genesis Simanca hit six of her 12 kills in the fourth set.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Genesis Simanca hit 12 kills with five digs and five blocks, and was 21-for-21 on service reception.
• Ava Churnesky also landed 12 kills and had a double-double with 11 blocks.
• Maggy Hallihan recorded a 14-assist, 17-dig double-double with four service aces.
• Carmen Rivera was sharp on defense with 25 digs. 
• Kyla Davis hit .455 with five kills and seven blocks. 

For the Griffins
• Lillian Bandel had a team-best 10 kills and 14 digs.
• Sofia Rodriguez passed out 37 assists with 11 digs.
• Kate Hanley added eight kills with 14 digs.
• Nicole Dimiris and Sadie Bayko each landed seven kills.

News and Notes
• The Lions improve to 30-7 all-time against Chestnut Hill as they swept the Griffins in 2025.
• Brooke Bowbliss reached 100 digs this season.
• This is the Lions lowest hitting percentage in a win this season. The last time GCU won a match hitting below .100, also against Chestnut Hill, back on Sept. 18 of last season when they hit .066.
• Those are the only two times since 2020 GCU has won a match hitting below .100. The last time before that and the last time against a team other than Chestnut Hill was back on Sept. 7, 2019 at Davis and Elkins. Georgian Court Head Coach Shana Rayside had eight kills in that match. 
• In the Lions last two matches, opponents have hit 31 service errors in eight sets, nearly four errors per set. 
• The Lions 69 digs are their most in a four-set match this season.
