Men's Lacrosse Picks Up First Win of the Season at UDC

WASHINGTON, DC (Feb. 22, 2025) - Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse earned their first win of the 2025 season. The Lions used a big first quarter, scoring nine times on their way to a 17-5 win.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court excelled in the faceoff circle winning 15-23 which led to plenty of offense.
• The Lions totaled 12 more shots, 42-30, 31-19 in shots on goal.
• GCU forced UDC into 19 turnovers, while committing just 15 themselves.
• Georgian Court took three penalties and killed them all off while going 1-1 man-up.
• On the ground, Georgian Court also dominated, winning 39 groundballs to the Firebirds' 23. 
1st Quarter
• Before the game was 30 seconds old, Georgian Court had scored twice. Brett Bridges scored the first at 14:41 and Doug Mackenzie added another just eight seconds later.
• UDC got one of those back, before the Lions ratted off six straight goals.
• Six different Lions scored during the run, including Bridges and Mackenzie for the second time. Joe Zerr, James Sanford, Millan Webster, and Harrison Jordan all scored their first of the day.
• After UDC broke the scoring streak, Matt Dorrian popped one more before the frame ended and the Lions led 9-2 after the first.
2nd Quarter
• In the second it was the defense that shined. They didn't allow a goal and forced seven turnovers in the period.
• The Lions added three to their total with two more goals from Mackenzie and Bridges and a man-up goal from Brodie Seaborn.
• Vincent Burkhart also made a pair of saves, but was relatively untested in the second and GCU led by 10, 12-2 at the half.
3rd Quarter
• Between the end of the first and late in the third, Georgian Court scored seven straight. 
• They tallied the first three of the second half with Tyler Burns scoring his first with Dorrian and Bridges adding to their total for the day.
• The Firebirds went 31:14 seconds of game time between goals.
4th Quarter
• Vincent Burns got on the board giving the Lions their 17th goal of the day.
• The Firebirds' Julian Schemm scored twice at the end to get to the 17-5 final score.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Vincent Burkhart allowed just two goals and made 12 saves in 44 minutes of action.
• Brett Bridges totaled seven points with four goals and three assists on eight shots.
• Matt Dorrian scored twice with three assists and two ground balls.
• Doug Mackenzie picked up a hat trick with three goals and an assist.
• Brodie Seaborn scored twice and picked up two ground balls.
• Daniel Devitt and Stephen Albanese were each 6-8 on faceoffs with five ground balls.
• Christian Smith, Joe Murphy, Max Dennington and James Sanford each caused a pair of turnovers.

For the Firebirds
• Julian Schemm scored twice and tallied an assist.
• Dylan Donaldson did the same with two goals and a helper.
• Patrick Nyarko picked up four ground balls.
• Israel Amajioyi made 14 saves.

News and Notes
• All-time Georgian Court improves to 6-3 against UDC with six straight wins.
• This is the second straight season the Lions first win came against the Firebirds.
• Joe Murphy caused his 40th (and 41st) turnover, the fourth Lion to ever reach 40 career caused turnovers.
• Brett Bridges moves to fourth all-time in career goals scored.
• Millan Webster scored his 20th career goal.
