LAKEWOOD, NJ (Feb. 26, 2025) - Georgian Court Men's Lacrosse picked up their second straight win Wednesday afternoon, a 17-10 thumping of St. Thomas Aquinas. The win pulls GCU's record to an even 2-2 on the young season.
How it Happened
• St. Thomas Aquinas was superb on faceoffs, but less so holding onto the ball.
• STAC turned the ball over 32 times, 17 forced by Georgian Court. The Lions turned it over just 23 times.
• Total shots favored the Lions, 48-39 and shots on goal, 34-25.
• The Spartans controlled 20-of-29 faceoffs, which gave them the edge on the ground, 43-36.
• The game featured 16 penalties with GCU going 3-7 man-up and STAC just 1-8.
1st Quarter
•
Matt Dorrian started the scoring with a goal, but that was answered quickly after by St. Thomas Aquinas.
• That same sequence played out a few minutes later, with GCU's
Brett Bridges pulling the Lions ahead, only for the Spartans to tie it up.
• Then the dam broke for the Lions. They finished the first with two more Bridges goals, one on the power play for a 4-2 lead after one.
2nd Quarter
• GCU kept rolling scoring the first three in the second quarter.
• Bridges added his fourth while
Joe Zerr and
Doug Mackenzie each tallied one.
• The Spartans stopped the streak at seven straight GCU goals, but the Lions went right back on offense, scoring three more.
• Bridges, Mackenzie and Zerr all scored again.
• STAC netted one more late to cut the deficit to 10-4 at the break.
3rd Quarter
• This time playing man-down,
Harrison Jordan gave GCU a seven-goal lead, 11-4, to start the half.
• The Spartans tried to get back into the game, scoring three straight in less than three minutes.
• Georgian Court responded with two more to end the third as Dorrian and
Vincent Burns lit the lamp.
4th Quarter
• The Lions offense wasn't slowing down and Bridges scored his sixth to start the fourth quarter.
• St. Thomas Aquinas scored three of the next four to get back to within five, 15-10 with 4:24 left to play.
• Mackenzie sealed the win with a pair of goals in the final three minutes.

Brett Bridges scored six goals while adding an assist.

Doug Mackenzie added five goals.

Joe Zerr passed out four assists while scoring twice.

Joe Murphy was on a mission and caused six turnovers. He also grabbed two groundballs.

• Under heavy duress Hayden Gaudette made 17 stops.
• Lucas Mullen totaled five points with two goals and three assists.
• Christian Rodriguez scored twice and picked up seven groundballs.
• Vinny Rosario was 20-28 on faceoffs with 12 ground ball pickups.

• GCU improves to 11-0 all-time against the Spartan.

Joe Murphy scooped his 100th career groundball.
• Murphy's six caused turnovers are also a new single-game record. Noone had ever had even five before.
