Softball Earns a Pair of One-Run Wins to Sweep Holy Family

LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 19, 2025) - It was the start of CACC play and both games were as dramatic as could be. Georgian Court and Holy Family played to two one-run games with Georgian Court coming out on top in both, 6-5 and 4-3. That starts the Lions at 2-0 in conference action.

How it Happened

• The Lions scored six runs on 11 hits. Holy Family scored five times on 10 hits.
• GCU made two errors in the field, but neither cost them a run.
• Lion hitters struck out just one time in six innings at the plate.
• GCU pitchers walked five and hit two batters.
• Holy Family stranded 11 runners on base including leaving the bags loaded three separate innings. 
• Holy Family threatened in the top of the first. They loaded the bases with two outs, but didn't push a run across.
• The Lions took advantage and scored three times themselves in the first. Kaylin Curro led off with a double. She scored on a wild pitch.
• GCU tacked on with Ella Moore homering to right. Reagan Winn kept the inning going and and scored from first on Cheyenne Jackson's RBI double for a 3-0 lead after one.
• The Tigers got two of the runs back in the third. The collected four hits and scored twice. It could have been more, but a runner left early on a fly ball trying to advance and was called out.
• Georgian Court put up another three runs in the fourth. Charlee Mae Sinderud led off with a single and Brooklyn Ragland walked putting two on. Kaylin Curro and Lia DeMaio followed with RBI singles
• Curro came in to score on Ella Moore's sacrifice fly and the Lions were up 6-2.
• Holy Family responded in the fifth as Sam Ciasullo led off the inning with a long home run to left. They added a run on a ground out and trailed by two, 6-4.
• The Tigers inched closer in the sixth. They loaded the bases with one out, but scored just one on a two-out RBI single up the middle to pull within 6-5.
• Nursing a one-run lead, Blaszka struck out the first two in the seventh and ended the game with a ground out to secure the win.

Lion Stat Leaders
Cheyenne Jackson was 3-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
Kaylin Curro reached base three times with a double and two runs scored.
Lia DeMaio singled twice and drove in a run.
Ella Moore homered and drove in a pair.
Janelle Blaszka threw all seven innings, needing 156 pitches and gave up five runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts.

For the Tigers
• Kinsley Hall threw the first three innings allowing all six runs on seven hits.
• Molly Moore tossed three scoreless frames allowing just four hits.
• Sam Ciasullo homered and walked.
• Madison Grubb doubled and scored twice.
• Lauren Hagy collected three hits and drove in a pair.

Game 2 How it Happened

• The Lions totaled four runs on seven hits, all singles.
• Holy Family collected eight hits with one home run to score three times.
• The Lions made three errors in the field while the Tigers made two, leading to an unearned run.
• The Tigers stranded nine runners on base in game two and GCU left six. 
• Two infield errors on the first three batters brought in a run for Georgian Court who led 1-0 after the first.
• For the second straight game, Sam Ciasullo went deep. She led off the second with a towering home run to straightaway center to tie the game at one.
• The Tigers put two in scoring position with two outs, but Lapp induced a lazy pop up to end the inning. 
• Georgian Court took the lead right back in the home half of the inning. Cheyenne Jackson led off with a single and came in to score on a ground ball for a 2-1 lead.
• The Lions put together a two-out rally in the third. They loaded the bases and Reagan Winn scored on a wild pitch. It could have been more but Isabella Molina's sharp line drive was hit right at the second baseman to end the inning.
• The teams continued to trade runs back and forth. Holy Family scored a run on a wild pitch and again got to within one, 3-2. They again stranded a runner on third though. 
• Holy Family again had traffic on the bases. They scored a run on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at three. GCU stranded two in scoring position to keep the game tied.
• With two outs in the sixth, the Lions grabbed the lead back. Brooklyn Ragland's single scored Gabriella Aleman with the go-ahead run and a 4-3 GCU lead.
• Holy Family put the first two on in the seventh and got the tying run just 60 feet away with one out. But Lapp again escaped trouble with a line out and a fly out to hang on for the win.

Lion Stat Leaders
Julia Lapp worked in and out of trouble all day allowing three runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Gabriella Aleman picked up a pair of hits and scored a run.
Brooklyn Ragland finished 1-3 and drove in two.
Reagan Winn and Cheyenne Jackson each had a hit and a run scored.

For the Tigers
• Paige Tideback allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits with a pair of punch outs.
• Alexis Letizia had two hits in four at bats.
• Sam Ciasullo again homered and walked.
• Gabrielle Wiley reached base twice with a single and a walk and scored a run. 

News and Notes
Janelle Blaszka picked up her 30th career win. She also moved into a tie 10th place in the NCAA era in strikeouts.
• Moore's home run in game one was the Lions first home run at home this season.
Cheyenne Jackson and Gabriella Aleman each reached 40 career hits.
• Georgian Court improves to 3-1 in one-run games this season.
• In the two games, Holy Family combined to leave 20 runners on base.

• Georgian Court has a busy weekend ahead with doubleheaders Friday, Saturday and Sunday. First up they'll be at Northeast-10 foe Adelphi Friday, March 21 starting at 2 pm.
