Lions Dominate in CACC Opener

CALDWELL, NJ (March 22, 2025) - Georgian Court Women's Lacrosse got back in the win column in dramatic fashion Saturday afternoon. The Lions stepped into conference play and their offense came alive in a 25-7 win at Caldwell. This starts GCU off at 1-0 in CACC action.

How it Happened
• It all starts on the draw where Georgian Court won 24-of-32.
• They controlled possession all afternoon and took 45 shots to the Cougars 13. Of those 45, 32 were on net while Caldwell put eight on goal.
• GCU limited turnovers to just nine while forcing 16. The Lions were a perfect 7-7 on clear attempts. Caldwell was just 9-14.
• Free-position shots were not easy for either team. GCU was 0-3 and Caldwell 0-2.
• Georgian Court was called for six cards, four green and two yellow. The Lions killed off 4-6 penalties. GCU failed to score with the extra-woman in their three opportunities.
1st Quarter
• Georgian Court scored the first four goals of the game with Isabel Raimondi scoring twice and Nena Menard and Gabrielle Battle getting a goal each.
• Caldwell responded with three of the next four and GCU led 5-3 with less than a minute to play.
• In the closing seconds, Michaela Scirrotto found Battle who put one behind the keeper with just two seconds left to give the Lions a 6-3 lead after one.
2nd Quarter
• The teams continued to trade goals to start the second.
• It was still just a three goal game, 8-5, when the Lions took over. 
• GCU scored five straight starting with Scirrotto.
• Five different Lions scored during the run as Raimondi, Menard, Battle and Caitlin Petrellese all tallied a goal.
• Caldwell scored once in the final minute of the half, but GCU was on top 13-6 at the break.
3rd Quarter
• The second half was all GCU.
• It started in the third where the Lions outscored the Cougars 7-0.
• Petrellese scored twice in the opening minute of the half.
• After nearly eight scoreless minutes, the Lions scored five times in the final 6:23 of the third.
• Raimondi got it going and that kept the clock running with GCU up 16-6.
• She added two more and Petrellese scored another as they both totaled three goals in the third.
Breanna Upton scored with 14 seconds left and put the Lions up 20-6 after three.
4th Quarter
• Upton finished the third quarter and started the fourth with goals for GCU.
• Neither team scored in the first five minutes of the fourth before Upton found the back of the net.
• Caldwell scored a woman-up goal with five minutes to play for the Cougars only goal of the second half.
• Three different Lions all scored in the final 2:17: Sophia Raimondi and Emily Smith got their firsts of the game and Nena Menard her fourth.

Lion Stat Leaders
Isabel Raimondi totaled 12 points with eight goals and four assists.
Gabrielle Battle passed out five assists while scoring three times herself.
Caitlin Petrellese scored five goals, won eight draws and caused two turnovers.
Nena Menard added four goals and four draw controls.
Jill Konschak grabbed two ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
Natalie Moradian got the win in goal playing 23 minutes and making one save.

For the Cougars
• Meghan Korzevinski scored four goals with an assist. 
• Tiana Cipot scored twice and passed out two assists.
• Janea Kelty won five draw controls. 
• Marybeth Zimos caused three turnovers.

News and Notes
• The 25 goals scored is a single-season high and just one off the Lions all-time record.
• Isabella Raimondi's eight goals and 12 points are new career highs. She was one goal away from tying the single-game record.
Caitlin Petrellese won her 100th career draw control and scored her 50th career point. 
Michaela Scirrotto played in her first game of the season. 
• GCU got all three goaltenders into action with Natalie Moradian, Cadence Gentile and Mary Costello all playing at least 15 minutes.
• Moradian and Tierni Furlong each played in their 30th career games.
Gabrielle Battle scored her 20th point.
