LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 23, 2025) - Georgian Court Softball welcomed nonconference foe Assumption to Lakewood Sunday afternoon for a doubleheader. The Greyhounds took early leads in both games and put away GCU 10-6 in game one and 6-1 in game two.
Game 1 - Assumption 10, Georgian Court 6
How it Happened
• Each team collected 11 hits in the game.
• Six of Assumption's 11 hits were doubles. GCU had just one extra-base hit.
• Neither team made an error in the field.
• The Greyhounds stole four bases. GCU didn't attempt one.
• Lots of balls were put in play. GCU pitchers walked four and struck out two. Assumption didn't fan a batter and walked two.
• Assumption got the scoring started early. After getting the first out, the next seven batters reached. The Greyhounds put seven on the board, the biggest hit a bases-loaded double off the fence in left to score three runs.
• A double-steal following a walk brought home the seventh run and Assumption was up by a touchdown before the Lions took a turn at bat. GCU walked three and hit a batter in addition to four hits for the Greyhounds.
• Georgian Court got on the board in the second.
Brooklyn Ragland drove in
Gabriella Aleman with a single. Mikayla LaPlace scored on a ground ball and the Greyhound lead was trimmed to 7-2 entering the third.
• Assumption got one of those runs right back. Emma Bloom hit her second double to drive in a run.
• The Lions rallied with two outs in the fourth. Three consecutive hits scored a pair.
Charlee Mae Sinderud drove in both with her base hit up the middle. It could have been more but for the third time the in the game,
Kaylin Curro's hard hit ball found a glove and ended the inning.
• Again though, the Lions couldn't put up a shut down inning. The Greyhounds hit two doubles and went up 9-4.
• For the second straight inning, GCU got three straight two-out base-runners.
Cheyenne Jackson's single to left brought in
Reagan Winn, cutting the lead to 9-5.
• Assumption put up another run with a seeing-eye single from Molly Green, bringing the Greyhounds to 10 runs.
• Some wild defensive plays ended the sixth and seventh innings. With GCU threatening in the sixth, a lazy pop fly to second was juggled and ultimately caught to end the frame.
• In the seventh,
Cheyenne Jackson extended the game with a two-out double.
Mikayla LaPlaca's fly ball was lost in the sun in left field and fell, but she was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple to end the game, 10-6.

Brooklyn Ragland finished 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Charlee Mae Sinderud had a single and drove in three runs.

Mikayla LaPlaca was 3-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Lillian Noyes pitched well for the final six innings allowing three runs and striking out two.
For the Greyhounds
• Paige Cote got the win allowing four runs on six hits in the first four innings.
• Anna Tassone threw the final three innings allowing two runs to get the save.
• Molly Green drove in a pair of runs on two hits.
• Emma Bloom doubled twice and drove in four runs.
• Kaitlyn Cahill doubled and scored twice.
Game 2
How it Happened
• Assumption scored six runs on nine hits, including a double and a triple.
• Georgian Court collected six hits, all singles.
• The Lions were able to get runners on with six hits and six walks, but left 11 runners on base.
• GCU struck out eight times in the game. Assumption struck out five.
• The Lions made two errors in the field while Assumption was error free. GCU allowed one unearned run.
• Georgian Court loaded the bases in the bottom of the first with three walks, but Assumption got out of the inning with a strikeout, their first of the day to end the threat.
• It was Assumption's turn to load the bases in the second. They did so with no outs and scored two runs on productive outs.
• Georgian Court got one back in the bottom of the inning.

Brooklyn Ragland to cut the lead in half.
• The Greyhounds took advantage of a pair of errors in the third. They scored an unearned run. It could have been more, but
Gabriella Aleman made a sparkling play at third to end the inning and strand two in scoring position.
• Assumption kept the offense going in the fourth. They scored three runs on four hits to extend their lead to 6-1. The biggest hit, a Maddy Bland two-out, two-RBI double in the gap in left center.
• Even though Georgian Court had some traffic on the bases in the later innings, they weren't able to push any more runs across and Assumption completed the sweep with the 6-1 win.

Julia Lapp gave up six runs, five earned, on nine hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Brooklyn Ragland singled twice and walked. She scored the Lions only run.

Kaylin Curro drove in a run with a single.

For the Greyhounds
• Kaelin Waldron walked six and gave up six hits. But she also struck out eight and allowed just one run for the win.
• Maddy Bland doubled and drove in three runs.
• Kaitlyn Cahill singled twice and scored two runs.
• Emily Bloom singled, scored and drove in a run.
News and Notes
• Georgian Court didn't make a fielding error in game one. It was their first time without an error in 12 games.
• This was the first time GCU and Assumption played outside of the state of Florida. They had met six times previously, all in Florida. Assumption now leads the series 5-3.

Julia Lapp made her 30th career appearance.
•
Brooklyn Ragland was 5-5 in the doubleheader.
• The bottom of the GCU lineup was a force in game one. The 5-9 hitters were a combined 11-18 with five RBI and five runs scored.
