Two-Hit Gem Leads GCU To Split at Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, DE (March 25, 2025) - There were lots of emotions between two games played at Goldey-Beacom Tuesday afternoon. The Lions had everything working in a euphoric 9-1, game one win. Game two seemed to be headed that way with a lead into the seventh, but it came crashing down as the Lightning walked off the Lions with a three-run seventh inning to steal a 4-3 win in game two.

Game 1 - Georgian Court 9, Goldey-Beacom 1 - 5 Innings
How it Happened

• It was all Georgian Court as the Lions scored in four of five innings.
• They picked up 10 hits, three extra-base hits and limited the Lightning offense to just two.
• The Lions had a lot of traffic with 10 hits and five walks and still left eight on base.
• There were just two total strikeouts the entire game.
• Neither team made an error in the field.
• Georgian Court loaded the bases in the first thanks to a single, walk and a hit-by-pitch. They only brought in one run though on Gabriella Aleman's sacrifice fly to center for a 1-0 lead.
• The Lions made it 4-0 in the second. Brooklyn Ragland led off with a double and scored on Charlee Mae Sinderud's RBI single.
• Sinderud scored on a double from Kaylin Curro and Curro crossed on a safety squeeze from Lia DeMaio.
• GCU loaded the bases in the fourth as Curro, DeMaio and Ella Moore each singled to lead off the inning. It looked like the Lightning might get out of the inning unharmed after a couple of ground balls got the force at home. But GCU stayed patient and worked two walks to drive in two runs and go up 6-0.
• The Lion offense continued to roll in the fifth. After Curro singled and DeMaio was hit by a pitch, Moore tripled into the gap in right center to score them both. Winn drove in Moore with a ground ball and the Lions led 9-0.
• As hot as the offense was, Julia Lapp was dealing in the circle as well. She allowed just a walk through the first four innings.
• Goldey-Beacom finally got their first hit leading off the fifth. They scored a run on a ground ball, but that was all and GCU took game on after five innings, 9-1.

Lion Stat Leaders
Julia Lapp got the win allowing a run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout needing just 68 pitches.

• Josalyn McMillan drove in a run with a ground out.

Game 2 - Goldey-Beacom 4, Georgian Court 3
How it Happened

• Georgian Court outhit the Lightning 7-6.
• Each team walked twice.
• GCU made one error in the field, which started the seventh and led to three unearned runs.
• After playing three scoreless innings, Georgian Court jumped in front in the fourth.
Ella Moore and Reagan Winn each reached base with out one. With two away, Cheyenne Jackson doubled inside the left field line to score Moore.
• One batter later, Brooklyn Ragland singled to center bringing in Winn and Jackson for a 3-0 lead.
• GBC got one of those runs back in the home half of the inning. A leadoff triple and a sacrifice fly brought in the Lightning's first run of the game.
• The Lightning threatened in the sixth getting the tying run on base with two outs, but Janelle Blaszka got a fly ball to end the inning and the scoring threat.
• Things fell apart for GCU in the seventh. The Lightning put the first three on to load the bases with nobody out. Gabriella Aleman secured the first out with a diving catch in foul ground.
• A walk made it a 3-2 game before a fielder's choice ground out cut down a run at the plate and the Lions were an out away from hanging on. On a 3-2 pitch, Bryn Bohmann drove one to the fence in right center to score the tying and winning run as GBC stole a 4-3 win.
