LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 5, 2025) - Georgian Court Women's Lacrosse dropped their fifth straight Wednesday afternoon, 19-7 against Southern Connecticut. The Owls scored the first seven goals and never trailed, cruising to a 12-goal win.
How it Happened
• Southern Connecticut hardly missed. They scored 19 goals on just 28 shots with 24 shots on target.
• GCU finished with 23 shots, 20 on goal and seven behind the keeper.
• The Lions struggled on free position shots hitting just 2-8 while SCSU was 2-5.
• Georgian Court turned the ball over 17 times and the Owls 15. GCU was 16-19 on clear attempts and SCSU 23-27.
1st Quarter
• It was a nightmare start for the Lions, who have often found themselves down early.
• Southern Connecticut was on an early power play as
Brielle U'Selis was called for a yellow card.
• GCU killed off that penalty, but took another yellow card shortly after. The Owls scored on the ensuing free-position shot and it was 1-0 four minutes into the game.
• SCSU quickly scored two more just 47 seconds apart.
• The Owls added another with a little over three minutes to play in the first and GCU needed a timeout.
• The break was only temporary. SCSU added a fifth on a free-position goal and led 5-0 after the first.
• Georgian Court had just two shots in the quarter, both on free-position attempts and both saved.
• Turnovers were a big problem in the first 15 minutes, as GCU turned it over nine times.
2nd Quarter
• Southern Connecticut added two more to start the second and were up by a touchdown.
• Georgian Court finally got on the board at the 10:55 mark in the second quarter.
Isabel Raimondi would not be denied, driving to the net, spinning and scoring.
• GCU made it 7-2 two minutes later as Raimondi found Petrellese who scored.
• Each team scored once again and it remained a five-goal Owl lead.
• SCSU answered a Lion goal with one of their own just 32 seconds later. They added another with 39 seconds to play in the quarter and led 10-3 at the half.
3rd Quarter
• The Owls scored the first two in the third. They finished the first half on the power play and cashed in to start the second.
• Georgian Court got two straight free-position goals, one from Petrellese and another from
Sophia Raimondi 56 seconds apart, cutting the lead to 12-5.
• Petrellese and
Isabel Raimondi each scored another in the period, but the Owls offense didn't stop.
• SCSU scored exactly five goals in each of the first three periods and took a 15-7 lead into the fourth.
4th Quarter
• Georgian Court took seven shots in the fourth, but couldn't beat Caelan Connors.
• The Owls scored three quick which started a running clock.
• SCSU added one more for good measure to bring the total to 19-7.
Lion Stat Leaders
• Isabella Raimondi totaled five points with three goals and two assists.

Caitlin Petrellese scored three times with four draw controls, six ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Sophia Raimondi tacked on a goal and two ground balls.
•
Addison Rivera collected an assist and caused two turnovers.
•
Nena Menard chipped in three draw controls, five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
For the Owls
• Caelan Connors made 13 saves to earn the win in goal.
• Macy Vail scored five goals and two assist along with two caused turnovers and two draw controls.
• Anna Meserve, Allie Welder and Jordan Fisher all scored three goals. Meserve caused three turnovers and scooped four ground balls while Welder won five draws.

Isabel Raimondi took her 250th career shot and also moved to sole possession of second all-time at GCU in assists.
• Georgian Court falls to 1-2 all-time against SCSU with losses each of the last two seasons.

Mary Costello saw her first in-game action at goalkeeper.
• Through six games, Georgian Court is being outscored 29-7 in the first period. The 29 is the most they've allowed in any period and the seven scored is their fewest.
