Pitching Gem Earns Softball Split at Chowan

MURFREESBORO, NC (March 9, 2025) - Georgian Court Softball played two one-run games at Chowan, winning game one 2-1 before falling in the second 6-5. 

Game 1 - Georgian Court 2, Chowan 1
How it Happened

• Georgian Court finished with six hits, one double. Chowan collected seven singles.
• Both teams were running wild on the bases with three stolen bases each.
• The Lions made two errors, but Julia Lapp was able to work around each.
• Chowan made one, but it proved to be the difference in the game.
• Georgian Court left runners on base in each of the first two innings.
• The Hawks grabbed a run in the fourth. With two outs and the bases empty, a single a passed ball put a run in scoring position. Chowan got the hit they needed with an RBI single for a 1-0 lead.
• GCU left runners on again in the fifth, but came through in the sixth. Ella Moore was iht by a pitch and Mikayla LaPlaca knocked a two-out single. They each stole a bag and came in to score on a fielding error, putting the Lions up 2-1.
• Lapp ran into trouble in the seventh as the Hawks put the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position, but coaxed a fly ball to end the game. 

Lion Stat Leaders
Julia Lapp threw all seven innings allowing seven hits, walking one and striking out one.
Ella Moore and Mikayla LaPlaca singled, stole a base and scored.
Gabriella Aleman doubled and stole a base.
Lia DeMaio, Kaylin Curro and Charlee Mae Sinderud each had hits.

For the Hawks
• Haileigh Boone started and allowed one unearned run on five hits with two strikeouts.
• Abby Rutledge struck out five in two innings.
• Lenita Bryson singled and drove in a run.
• Kaitlyn Springle singled, walked and scored.

Game 2 - Chowan 6, Georgian Court 5
How it Happened

• Chowan totaled nine hits including three extra-base hits.
• Georgian Court collected eight singles.
• GCU pitching struck out seven Hawks.
• The Hawks made three errors in the field and that led to two unearned runs. 
• Chowan took a one-run lead in the second getting a one-out solo home run.
• Georgian Court loaded the bases with one out in the fourth. Cheyenne Jackson came through with a single up the middle to score a pair.
• A pinch hit RBI ground out scored Gabriella Aleman and the Lions led 3-1.
• The Hawks got those runs right back in the bottom of the inning. With two out and one in scoring position, a sacrifice fly and an RBI single tied the game after four.
• The Lions had a chance in the fifth getting two on with two outs but couldn't convert. 
• Chowan had their chance in the sixth and took advantage. With two in scoring position, a wild pitch scored the go-ahead run. They got some insurance with an RBI single to lead 5-3 through six.
• The Lions rallied with two outs in the seventh and got some help to tie the game. With two outs, Kaylin Curro walked and Ella Moore singled. Reagan Winn's ground ball was miss played at second base allowing both runners to score and tie the game at five.
• The comeback only prolonged the game a few minutes. With one out in the seventh Elizabeth Ingle went deep to left for a walk off home run.

Lion Stat Leaders
Janelle Blaszka started and threw the first four innings allowing three runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
Cheyenne Jackson reached twice with a hit and a walk and drove in a pair of runs.
Ella Moore singled twice and scored.
Kaylin Curro collected two hits and a walk. 

For the Hawks
• Alex Bishop gave up three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
• Mckenzie Misenheimer picked up two hits and scored twice.
• Lenita Bryson homered to score the game's first run and Elizabeth Ingle's home run was the game's final run.

News and Notes
• Game one was Lapp's first seven-inning complete game this season. She improves to 1-3 on the year.
• Game two was the first game this season GCU did not commit an error in the field.

Up Next
• Georgian Court plays one final doubleheader on this spring break trip. They'll head to Richmond, VA tomorrow to take on Virginia Union starting at 12 pm.
