LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 1, 2025) - Georgian Court Women's Lacrosse fell to 2-2 in CACC play at the hands of a 15-11 loss to Jefferson. The Rams used a 4-0 run in the second quarter to pull ahead and stay ahead. Jefferson remains unbeaten in conference play at 4-0.
How it Happened
• Most of the final numbers were close, indicating a tight game.
• Jefferson had the edge in shots, 36-26, but GCU led in shots on goal, 18-15.
• The Rams earned nine free position chances and went 4-9 on shots. Georgian Court was just 2-4 on their free-position attempts.
• It was a penalty filled game with Jefferson called for seven cards and the Lions four. The Lions scored five times on the advantage and killed off 3-of-4 Ram power plays.
• Teams were about even on the draw, 16-14 Jefferson and in the turnover department, 18-17 GCU.
• Georgian Court was 22-26 on clear attempts and Jefferson 22-25.
1st Quarter
• Jefferson struck first for the first two goals of the game and led 2-0 less than five minutes in.
• An exta-woman opportunity allowed the Lions to get back into the game.
Caitlin Petrellese cashed in on the power play to cut the lead in half.
• Just 14 seconds later,
Jill Konschak did the work herself and tied the game at two.
• After Jefferson reclaimed the lead, the Lions took their first lead with goals from
Nena Menard and a woman-up goal from Konschak.
• GCU couldn't hold onto the lead though. Jefferson tied the game with 2:20 to play and scored again with just nine seconds left to take a 5-4 lead after one.
2nd Quarter
• After four scoreless minutes, GCU got back to within one as Michaela Scirotto scored with an assist from
Isabel Raimondi.
• The Rams though responded scoring four straight. They took their largest lead of the game, 10-5.
• In the final minute, Petrellese got one back. Jill Konschack had a shot in the closing seconds, but Ram goalkeeper Kalyn Ammerlaan made the save and the Rams led 10-6 at the half.
3rd Quarter
• Georgian Court's defense was excellent for the first 97% of the third quarter.
• GCU caused three turnovers and
Cadence Gentile made four saves.
• Jefferson took three yellow cards in the first half, meaning their next would give the Lions a two-minute locked-in penalty.
• Sure enough that fourth yellow came just 86 seconds into the half.
• The Lions took advantage scoring twice getting goals from
Gabrielle Battle and
Nena Menard to cut the Ram lead in half, 10-8.
• After Menard's goal, neither team scored for the next 12 minutes.
• It looked like that 10-8 score might hold until the fourth, but Jefferson scored off a Lion turnover with just 29 seconds left in the frame.
• Just 15 seconds later, Jefferson scored again and the lead was back up to four, 12-8 through three.
4th Quarter
• The teams traded goals at the beginning of the fourth.
• Konschak and Battle each scored, but the Rams scored shortly after, not allowing the Lions to gain any ground.
• Jefferson went back up five, 15-10 with 9:01 left then clamped down defensively.
• Menard added another free-position, power-play goal, but that was all the Lions could get down the stretch in the 15-11 loss.
