Second Half Surge Lifts Lions to Win at Dominican

ORANGEBURG, NY (April 16, 2025) - Georgian Court used a strong second half to propel them to a 12-6 win at Dominican. Tied at the break, GCU outscored Dominican 9-3 in the second half to improve to 9-6 overall and 6-1 in the CACC.

How it Happened
• Most statistics were very close between the two teams. 
• Georgian Court had the edge in shots, 42-39 and shots on goal, 27-21.
• Georgian Court won more faceoffs, 12-9, but it was Dominican who picked up more ground balls, 36-35.
• Dominican also committed fewer turnovers as the Lions lost the ball 22 times and the Chargers 18.
• There were only two penalties called, both on GCU. Dominican was 1-2 in their man-up chances.
1st Quarter
• It took more than 10 minutes for the first goal to be scored.
• The goaltenders were very sharp early, making a combined nine saves, four for the Lions' Vincent Burkhart.
• Following a Chargers failed clear, GCU went back on offense and finally broke through as Brett Bridges scored to give the Lions the lead.
• It was still 1-0 with less than two minutes remaining when Bridges found Tyler Michalski who made it 2-0.
• Burkhart made a late save and turned defense into offense as Matt Dorrian found Brodie Seaborn who scored with just four seconds left and GCU was up 3-0 after one.
2nd Quarter
• The script flipped in the second. Just passed the five minute mark, Dominican got on the board to make it 3-1 Lions.
• The score stayed that way for a while, until Dominican got hot.
• They made it 3-2 with 2:46 left and less than a minute later tied the score following a GCU turnover.
• Georgian Court got a shot off in the closing seconds, but Dominican was there to make the save and it was 3-3 at the half.
3rd Quarter
• It was a different Georgian Court team that started the second half. It took very little time for the Lions to reclaim the lead.
• Seaborn scored twice in the first 1:20 of the half to give the Lions a 5-3 lead.
• That was the start of a 6-0 run in the third.
• After Seaborn scored twice, Bridges followed suit with two goals of his own.
• As the third came to a close, James Sanford made it 8-3 and Bridges scored his third of the period with just 67 seconds to play.
4th Quarter
• The Chargers tried to rally after getting shutout in the third. They scored the first two goals of the fourth and it was a 9-5 GCU lead with 10:59 still to play.
• Georgian Court, specifically, Vincent Burns, stopped that mini rally with a goal to make it 10-5.
• It was an all Burns fourth as Tyler Burns made it 11-5 and Vincent scored his second for a 12-5 lead.
• Dominican scored a late man-up goal to make it 12-6, but that was all as the Lions walked away with their sixth CACC win of the season.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Brett Bridges scored four goals and five points with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Brodie Seaborn added three goals.
• Vincent Burns picked up three points with two goals and an assist.
• Matt Dorrian grabbed four ground balls.
• Stephen Albanese won 7-9 faceoffs.
• Vincent Burkmade made 15 saves.

For the Chargers
• Bryce Layton made 15 saves in net as well.
• Noone scored more than one point. Miles Chies had a goal and three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
• Josh Wesneski was 9-18 on faceoff attempts with five ground balls. 
• Nickolas Paletta finished with a game-high eight ground balls.

News and Notes
• Brett Bridges became the new all-time leader in points scored in Lions history.
• Vincent Burns scored his 50th point.
• Daniel Devitt surpassed 50 ground balls.
• James Sanford scored his 75th point. 
• Harrison Jordan moved into the single-season top-10 in assists.
• Georgian Court has now won twice this season while being shutout in a quarter. The last time they won even once in a scoreless quarter was April 6, 2022 in a 17-8 win over Caldwell.
