Georgian Court Women's Lacrosse Uses Dominant Third Quarter in Win at Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (April 18, 2025) - Georgian Court Women's Lacrosse broke a seven-all halftime tie with a dominant third quarter to propel themselves to an 18-13 win at Bridgeport. Georgian Court outscored the Purple Knights 6-2 in the third and 11-6 in the second half to improve to 5-3 in the CACC this season.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court led in total shots 32-26 and shots on goal 27-22.
• The Purple Knights were the quicker team on the draw winning 19-34.
• Georgian Court was excellent on free-position chances, going 9-11.
• They also scored four woman-up goals on seven Bridgeport cards.
• GCU took four cards, but killed off each penalty, even scoring a shorthanded goal. 
1st Quarter
• Goals were fast and furious at the start.
• Georgian Court started it with two straight 70 seconds in, both from Caitlin Petrellese.
• Bridgeport answered though with two goals 53 seconds apart and it was a 2-2 game with still 11:29 to play in the quarter.
• The Purple Knights made it three-straight goals and took their first lead, 3-2, at the 8:40 mark. 
• Just 10 seconds later, there was Petrellese again. She won the draw, ran past the entire Bridgeport defense and scored to tie the game at three.
• After the flurry of goals at the start, the teams played the final eight minutes scoreless and it was a 3-3 game going to the second.
2nd Quarter
• Bridgeport retook the lead to start the second with two quick goals.
• Isabel Raimondi cut that lead in half, but the Purple Knights answered just 46 seconds later and it was a 6-4 lead.
• Georgian Court responded scoring three straight as Michaele Scirrotto, Nena Menard and Gabrielle Battle all scored for a 7-6 GCU lead with less than five minutes to play in the half.
• With 2:15 left to play, Bridgeport hit the equalizer.
• Nena Menard got off a shot in the final minute that was saved and the score remained tied, 7-7, at the half. 
3rd Quarter
• It didn't take long for the Lions to get their lead back. Nena Menard won the opening draw of the second half and in the offensive zone, Gabrielle Battle hit Isabel Raimondi who finished and it was an 8-7 Lion lead 27 seconds into the half.
• Shortly after, Raimondi found herself with a free-position opportunity. She cashed in and Georgian Court had their first two-goal lead since 2-0, 9-7.
• Michaela Scirrotto made it a 3-0 run to start the third and a 10-7 Lion lead, forcing a Bridgeport timeout. 
• Out of the timeout, Bridgeport popped two goals to get back to within one.
• Following a UB save, Gabrielle Battle forced a turnover and a failed clear. She picked up the ground ball ball, fed Emily Smith who finished to put GCU back up 11-9.
• UB took a yellow card which gave GCU a power play and a foul put Jill Konschak on the line for a free-position attempt. She converted and the Lions were back up three, 12-9.
• The Purple Knights had chances after, but hit the post on one shot and Natalie Moradian came up with a big save on a free-position shot to keep it a three-goal game.
• Playing shorthanded due to a penalty, Nena Menard was still able to and GCU was up 13-9 through three quarters.
4th Quarter
• The Purple Knights inched closer with a goal in the opening minute, but GCU was there to to answer with two more.
• Raimondi scored once again and Breanna Upton gave the Lions a 15-10 lead. 
• UB didn't go down quietly though. They scored three straight to get back to within two, 15-13, with 6:16 left to play.
• The Purple Knights caused themselves a lot of trouble taking penalties. GCU again had an extra attacker thanks to locked-in yellow card and the Lions converted twice.
• Gabrielle Battle scored each goal and GCU was back out in front, 17-13. 
• Battle scored again in the final minute to get to the 18-13 final score. 

Lion Stat Leaders
• Isabel Raimondi scored four goals with two assists.
• Gabrielle Battle scored four times as well.
• Caitlin Petrellese added three goals, seven draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
• Addison Rivera caused three turnovers. 
• Nena Menard scored two goals and won four draw controls.
• Natalie Moradian entered the game in goal in the second quarter. She got the win making eight saves.

For the Purple Knights
• Tara DiMaio scored four times and won six draw controls while causing three turnovers.
• Tereza Kreuzova scored four times as well.
• Elizabeth Pitts added three goals.
• Samanta Targonski dished out two assists and won seven draw controls.
• Jacklyn Mellia made nine saves.

News and Notes
• The 13 goals allowed are the most GCU has allowed in a win this season. They haven't allowed more than 13 in a win since April 30, 2022 against Dominican.
• This was the first woman-down goal of the season for GCU. The last time they scored shorthanded was April 22 of last year at Felician.
• Georgian Court remains unbeaten against Bridgeport in CACC play, improving to 3-0.
• Nena Menard scored her 30th goal and Michaela Scirrotto her 20th.
• Caitlin Petrellese entered the GCU all-time top-10 in draw controls. She also caused her 50th career turnover.
• The win secures GCU a spot in the CACC Tournament. 

Up Next
• Georgian Court has one more regular season game left. That's next Wednesday, April 23 as they play in Philadelphia at Holy Family at 4 pm. Both teams enter at 5-3 and the winner will earn the No. 4 seed in the CACC Tournament and host an opening round playoff game while the loser will be No. 5 seed and open the CACC Tournament on the road.
