Softball Sweeps Bloomfield on Senior Day

LAKEWOOD, NJ (April 22, 2025) - Georgian Court Softball celebrated senior day then proceeded to pull off a doubleheader sweep of Bloomfield. The Lions took care of business defeating the Bears 8-3 and 5-2 to improve to 11-9 in the CACC this season.

Game 1 - Georgian Court 8, Bloomfield 3
How it Happened

• Georgian Court pounded 12 hits and scored eight runs. They crushed four extra-base hits including three triples.
• Bloomfield was held to four hits.
• The Bears made two errors, but all eight runs were earned. GCU played a clean game in the field and made some excellent plays.
• Georgian Court walked five times and their pitcher's walked four Bears.
• Each team struck out four times.
Janelle Blaszka retired the first two batters with ease and it looked like she would pick up where she left off yesterday against Post.
• But she quickly lost the strike zone, walking the next three to load the bases, and a bases clearing double put the Bears up 3-0 early.
• The Lions got one back in the bottom of the inning. Kaylin Curro and Gabriella each led off with walks, but Ella Moore's hard hit line drive was right to the first baseman who stepped on first for a double play.
Cheyenne Jackson then beat out an infield single and Curro never stopped running from second and beat the throw home to score a run for the Lions.
• GCU made it a one-run game in the second. Brooklyn Ragland walked and Mikayla LaPlace immediately followed with a triple, beating the right-fielder to score Ragland.
• LaPlaca though was stranded on third as the Bears ended the inning with back-to-back strikeouts to maintain a 3-2 lead.
• The Lions took their first lead in the third. Kaylin Curro scored all the way from first on a Gabriella Aleman single through the left side to tie the game. Jackson then gave GCU the lead with a sacrifice fly to score Aleman and give GCU a 4-3 lead.
• Georigan Court continued to pour it on. They got consecutive run-scoring hits from Curro, Aleman and Ella Moore all had RBI hits and put GCU out in front 7-3.
• Another triple, this time from Reagan Winn, the Lions third of the game scored Aleman to make it an 8-3 game going to the seventh.

Lion Stat Leaders
Gabriella Aleman singled twice, walked twice and scored three runs.
Kaylin Curro singled, tripled, scored three times and drove in a run.
Ella Moore singled, doubled and knocked in a run.
Cheyenne Jackson drove in a pair of runs.
Janelle Blaszka tossed another complete game allowing three runs on four hits with four strikeouts.
Mikayla LaPlaca walked, triple and drove in a run.

For the Bears
• Rayn Romero drove in all three Bear runs with a first inning double.
• Romero also threw the final 2.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits.
• Rayna Ozuna was on base with two walks and scored a run.
• Deja Suero had a single and stole a base.

Game Two - Georgian Court 5, Bloomfield 2
How it Happened

• The Lions collected 11 hits to score five runs. The Bears scored two runs on six hits.
• Both teams made three errors. The Lions allowed one unearned run and the Bears allowed two unearned runs.
• GCU stranded 11 runners on base. The Bears left seven.
• Georgian Court grabbed a run in the first. An illegal pitch gave Gabriella Aleman another chance and she took advantage with a one-out double. She moved to third and Cheyenne Jackson brought her in with a sacrifice fly.
• The Lions could've tacked on in the second, but left the bases loaded. Weird play that inning as a fly ball popped out of the glove of the left fielder, but the center fielder backing up was right there to collect the rebound and secure the catch.
• GCU plated a pair in the third. Charlee Mae Sinderud lifted a sacrifice fly and Mikayla LaPlaca drove in Reagan Winn with an RBI single for a 3-0 lead.
• A sacrifice fly brought in a run for Bloomfield to cut the lead down to 3-1.
• The Lions got the run right back though as Reagan Winn drove in Ella Moore with a hard hit double to center.
• Bloomfield put up another run in the fifth. A two-out single brought home the Bears second run of the game and cut the Lion lead to 4-2.
• The Lions ran around the bases to score a fifth run. A routine ground ball was booted and Aleman, who singled, never stopped running scoring from first as the ball went into the outfield for a 5-2 lead.

Lion Stat Leaders
Gabriella Aleman finished 3-4 with a double and two runs scored.
Reagan Winn was on base four times with two hits and two walks. She scored a run and drove one in.
