Baseball Finishes Nonconference Games With St. Thomas Aquinas

JACKSON, NJ (April 27, 2025) - Georgian Court Baseball began their final week of play in their inaugural season with a doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas. The Lions dropped both ends with an 18-11 loss followed by 17-6.

Game 1 - St. Thomas Aquinas 18, Georgian Court 11
How it Happened

• Georgian Court outhit the Spartans 14-12, and crushed them in extra base hits 8-4.
• The Lions were hurt by three errors though which led to four unearned runs.
• GCU pitching also walked 13 and hit five batters.
• Both teams left plenty on base with STAC stranding 12 and GCU 11.
• The Spartans scored in each of the first five innings, and multiple runs in all five, totaling 15 runs.
• They scored three in the first without an RBI hit. Then in the second, all three came on one big RBI hit, a three-run home run for a 6-0 lead.
• GCU cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from Frank Marra and a two-RBI hit from Olivera Santana.
• STAC scored nine unanswered in the 3rd-5th innings. Nick Oelcher had a two-run homer in the fifth to cap than scoring.
• In the bottom of the fifth, Georgian Court started teeing off. They scored six runs in the inning with four home runs. 
• Alex Elliott led off with a homer. Then Joshua Moreno hit a two-run shot. Zinny Kemahu went back-to-back with Moreno before Oliver Santana hit a two-run shot of his own and it was a 15-9 game.
• Moreno doubled in a run in the sixth and Kemahu went long again in the eighth, but the Spartans put three more runs on the board and took game one, 18-11.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Zinny Kemahu homered twice and was 3-3 with three runs scored.
• Oliver Santana drove in four with a 2-6 afternoon.
• Alex Elliott was on base five times with two hits, including a home run, and three walks.
• Joshua Moreno doubled, homered and drove in three.
• Frank Marra singled twice, walked twice and scored two runs.
• Kyle Kolans and Ryan Basham threw scoreless innings in relief.

For the Spartans
• Ryan Appell was 3-3 with a home run, four RBI and four runs scored. He also walked three times and was on base in all six plate appearances.
• Nick Oelcher homered and drove in four runs.
• Anthony DiMarco finished 2-4 with four RBi and two runs scored.
• Michael Zeis had two hits, two walks and two runs scored.

Game 2 - St. Thomas Aquinas 17, Georgian Court 6
How it Happened

• STAC outhit Georgian Court 13-9.
• The Lions made a pair of errors leading to one unearned run.
• Georgian Court walked eight and struck out two while the Spartans walked four and struck out six. 
• The Lions got an early lead as Israel Garcia's infield single brought in Alex Elliott with the game's first run.
• A mishandled pickoff attempt at first, saw the ball get just far enough away to allow the runner from third to score STAC's first run and tie the game.
• The score stayed tied at one until the fifth. The Spartans put together a five-run inning getting a pair of RBI hits and using their legs to manufacture two more runs.
• GCU got back to within one, 6-5, in the bottom of the inning. Oliver Santana had the big hit, a three-run home run. Garcia had another RBI single to make it a one-run game.
• STAC really blew the game open in the sixth scoring 11 runs on nine hits and sending 17 batters to the plate in the inning. When the inning finally ended, St. Thomas Aquinas was out in front 17-5.
• Tomas Tamargo got in on the home run barrage in the sixth with a solo shot, but that concluded the scoring in a 17-6 Spartan win.

• Israel Garcia finished 3-3 with two RBI.
• Oliver Santana homered and drove in three runs.
• Tomas Tamargo hit a solo home run.
• Alex Elliott singled twice, walked and scored two runs.
• Eduardo Eble-Lacouture threw a scoreless seventh inning. 

For the Spartans
• Aidan Cardenas got the win throwing 4.1 innings and allowing five runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
• Anthony DiMarco had a 2-3 game with three RBI.
• Chris Ewing finished 3-4 with two runs scored. 
• Kyle DeCresce picked up three hits including a home run and scored three times.

News and Notes
• Georgian Court entered the day with 15 home runs in 44 games. They hit seven today.
• Oliver Santana didn't have a home run all season before hitting two, one in each game, today.
• These games conclude Georgian Court's nonconference season.
• Alex Elliott picked up hit number 50 for the season.

• Georgian Court finishes up the season at home with Bloomfield this Wednesday, April 30. The doubleheader starts at 10 am from the Jackson Justice Complex.
