Lions Hit Game-Tying Goal In Closing Minutes to Secure Draw with Millersville

LAKEWOOD, NJ (Sept. 17, 2025) - Less than one week after a late goal handed Georgian Court a devastating loss, it was the Lions turn to score in the final minutes and snatch a draw from what looked like defeat. The Lions tally came with less than two minutes to play as GCU played Millersville to a 1-1 draw. The tie is the Lions second on the season and moves them to 0-2-2 on the year.

How it Happened
• Georgian Court controlled a lot of possession, especially late. They were in control of the ball roughly 55% of the match.
• The Lions also held a large lead in shots, 14-8, and shots on goal, 6-3.
• Part of the reason for the Lions possession numbers was while ahead, the Marauders were trying to run out the clock and not get beat deep.
• Corner kicks also favored GCU, 6-4.
• Each team was issued two yellow cards and GCU was booked with a red. Common foul numbers were close with Millersville called for 14 and GCU 13.

1st Half
• It was a quick strike from Millersville. A header pass put the ball in a great place for Brian ONeill who went from right to left and scored in the seventh minute.
• Georgian Court was gearing up for chances down the field, but the Millersville defense was stout and didn't allow any clean looks at the net.
Ayendi Batista made a couple of saves in the middle of the half to keep it a one-goal game.
Gijs van Eif had a nice opportunity off of a corner kick, but his header sailed over the crossbar.
• Van Eif had another decent look towards the end of the half, but missed wide of the net and the Marauders led 1-0 after one.

2nd Half
• It was a bit of a longer halftime. Lightning in the area forced a delay and the teams went back inside for an extended break.
• When the came back, the lightning was gone, but not necessarily the rain.
• Millersville was trying their best to run out the clock and keep the Lions from getting in deep.
• They generated just three shots in the half, none on net.
• Georgian Court kept fighting and kept sending shots in.
• After a Marauder turnover, Georgian Court finally struck. David Tuschmann dribbled up and connected with Alessandro Cavallini who's deft touch beat the Millersville goalkeeper and tied the game with less than two minutes to play.
• There were some fireworks in the final 90 seconds, including three bookings, but no goals and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

News and Notes
