Three First-Half Goals Help Lions to Draw at Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, NY (Sept. 25, 2025) - For fans of offense, the first half of Georgian Court vs. Roberts Wesleyan were for you. There were a combined five goals in the first 45 minutes as GCU was up one, 3-2 at the break. The Redhawks scored the only goal of the second half though and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

How it Happened
• Possession numbers slightly favored the Redhawks, but GCU dominated shots and shots on goal. The Lions ripped 19 shots, 10 on target with the Redhawks totaling nine shots, putting five on goal.
• The rest of the numbers were mostly even as you might expect from a tie game. Roberts Wesleyan attempted one more corner kick than the Lions, 7-6.
• There were five yellow cards issued, four to the Lions. Common fouls were even at 12-apiece.

1st Half
• The goal-scoring started early with RWU putting one in in the fifth minute. That came following a Henry Calix shot that was stopped by the Redhawks keeper.
• Just five minutes later, Jack Pollintine-Smith hit nylon himself to tie the game. Lennard Altreuther provided the assist.
• Altreuther kept the pressure going following the goal with a shot that was saved, but two minutes after GCU tied the game, they took the lead as Pollintine-Smith hit Gijs van Eif who gave GCU a 2-1 lead.
• That lead didn't last long though as the Redhawks managed to tie the game in the 17th minute. There were four goals in the first 17 minutes of the game.
• Things slowed down a bit. It took 20 minutes for another goal and it was van Eif again with Tim Wilk providing the helper.
• The Lion defense didn't allow a shot the rest of the half and GCU led 3-2 at intermission.

2nd Half
• Georgian Court's offense which was buzzing in the first half, was slow out of the gates to start the second. They didn't register a shot for the first 15 minutes and RWU took advantage.
• The Redhawks tied the game at three with a goal in the 60th minute.
• GCU seemed to spring to life after the Redhawk equalizer. They responded with consecutive corner kicks and shots, but nothing that was on target.
• Both goalkeepers made a save in the final five minutes and that kept the game tied at three until the final buzzer.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Gijs van Eif scored twice on five shots.
• Jack Pollintine Smith netted his first of the season. He added an assist as well for a three-point game.
• Tim Wilk and Lennard Altreuther each provided an assist.
• Simon Moretensen started his second game in goal and made two saves.

For the Redhawks
• Eric Jewson worked hard to keep it a tie game making seven saves in net.
• Archie Murphy scored twice on two shots.
• Luke Hanes added a goal for RWU.
• Jack Hopson and Cooper Kerridge each added an assist.

News and Notes
• Gijs van Eif became the fourth Lion to ever score 20 career goals. He now stands at 21 in his career in what was his 40th game played.
• It's the third time in his career van Eif has scored two goals in a game.
• The Lions three goals are the most they've scored in a game this season.
• Jack Pollintine-Smith's three points are the most he's ever had in a game.
• This is the first time GCU has ever had a match end in a draw after scoring three first-half goals. They move to 11-1-1 in such instances.

• Georgian Court continues this road trip to NY Saturday, Sept. 27 with a game in Amherst, NY against Daemen. Game time is set for 2 pm. It's the Lions final nonconference game of the season.
