Volleyball Tripped Up by Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 25, 2025) - Georgian Court Volleyball was on the road Thursday night for a nonconference affair with Kutztown. GCU stumbled out of the gates and ultimately fell in straight sets, dropping their season record to 4-8.

How it Happened
• As a team, Kutztown hits .265 to the Lions .125.
• The Golden Bears put down 41 kills and six blocks while the Lions hit just 28 kills and four blocks.
• On the serve is where KU really made their money. They hit 10 aces against just five errors. Georgian Court scored just one service ace and hit four errors.

1st Set
• Emma Gildea started the match with a kill, but after that it was all Golden Bears.
• Kutztown followed by scoring eight straight points.
• They kept the offense rolling racing out to a 15-3 lead.
• The Lions were able to score a bit late, but not enough to threaten as KU took the opener 25-13.
2nd Set
• GCU kept things close at the start of the second set, but another spurt from the Golden Bears helped put things away.
• The Lions trailed by just two, 12-10, when Kutztown rattled off five straight points, helped out by two service aces.
• Three straight kills helped bring the Lions back to within three, 23-20, but Kutztown finished things off with consecutive kills for a 25-20 win and 2-0 match lead.
3rd Set
• Kutztown never led the Lions get a lead in the third set. They started scoring four of the first five and rolled from there.
• Following another 5-0 run, the Golden Bears were up by as much as 10, 22-12.
• The Lions outscored Kutztown 5-3 to close the set, but it was no matter as that was enough for a 25-17 KU win.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Ava Churnesky hit a team-best eight kills with four digs.
• Carmen Rivera dug up 14 attacks.
• Iciar Zayas passed out 13 assists while Brooke Bowbliss passed 11.
• Emma Gildea had three kills and four blocks.

For the Golden Bears
• Madilyn Bogovic hit .464 with 15 kills and just two errors.
• Paige Skinner scored 14 points with nine kills and five service aces.
• Emma Baldridge helped with 28 assists and 13 digs.

News and Notes
• These two teams have traded wins back-and-forth for the last seven matches dating back to 2018.
• Emily Hauptvogel played in her 100th career set.
• Ava Churnesky surpassed 100 kills.
