Volleyball Finishes Weekend in Pennsylvania Against Millersville

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Sept. 6, 2025) - Georgian Court Volleyball finished up their opening weekend at the West Chester opening tournament with another PSAC foe in Millersville. Georgian Court kept the sets close, but the Marauders were able to eek out a 3-0 win, 25-16, 25-21, 25-22.

How it Happened
• Millersville finished the match hitting .310 with just nine attack errors. Georgian Court nearly matched them in kills with 32, but hit 21 errors for a .115 attack percentage.
• Much of the match was fairly close. Each team dug out 36 attacks.
• The Lions led 7-6 in service aces and committed two fewer service errors.
• GCU did not put back a block while Millersville hit two.
Set 1
• The opening set was very close at the outset and GCU held a slim 11-10 lead midway through.
• Millersville then took over scoring five straight for a 15-11 lead and never looked back.
• They used another 5-0 run to go up 20-12 and scored four of the final five points to put the set away 25-16.
Set 2
• The second set saw the Marauders on top early only for Georgian Court to come back this time and keep things close.
• GCU trailed 7-4 but helped out by a kill from Genesis Simanca and Ava Churnesky ace, scored four straight to take an 8-7 lead, their first lead of the game.
• The Lions continued to hold the lead and were up two, 18-16 following and Iciar Zayas kill.
• But the Marauders finished off the set scoring nine of the final 12 points and took a 2-0 lead following a 25-21 set two win.
Set 3
• Georgian Court didn't go down easy. In fact they raced out to a 6-1 lead in set three.
• They pushed the lead to six as Jenna Heiser connected on a service ace for an 11-5 advantage.
• Like sets one and two though, GCU was unable to stop the big run. This time Millersville scored six straight to tie things at 11.
• The Lions went back on top, 15-13, and held a two-point edge at 20-18.
• Millersville responded with three straight kills to take the lead back and tied at 21, scored four of the final five for a 25-22 win and a 3-0 sweep of the match.

Lion Stat Leaders
• Ava Churnesky led GCU with 12 kills. She also picked up seven digs.
• Iciar Zayas dished out 25 assists with three kills and three digs.
• Carmen Rivera had a team-best 16 digs.
• Genesis Simanca chipped in with five kills and five digs. 

For the Marauders
• Taylor Welter had a game-high 14 kills and hit .522 for the match.
• Kat Dalessio picked up 14 assists and seven digs.
• Kylee Schurig was in double-figure kills with 10. 

News and Notes
• Jenna Heiser made her GCU debut playing in two sets.
• The Lions had their highest hitting percentage of the weekend.
• Millersville holds a 5-1 all-time lead against Georgian Court following Saturday's win.
