Lions Come Back From Five Goal Defecit

LAKEWOOD, NJ (March 19th, 2026) - After trailing 7-2 in the second quarter, the Lions came back and defeated the Saint Michael's Purple Knights 13-12. 

How it Happened
• Shots were close with GCU leading 30-29. 
• Saint Michael's led in turnovers with 18, and the Lions kept it to just 11. 
• The Lions were on the ground more with 27 ground balls compared to the Purple Knights 16. 
• Draw controls were in favor of Saint Michael's; they grabbed 16 compared to the Lions. 

1st Quarter
•  The first seven minutes were scoreless until Saint Michael's Sophia Lynch found the back of the net. 
• Forty seconds later, Erynn Richey struck for the Lions and quickly tied the game. 
• Purple Knights followed that up two minutes later with back-to-back goals. 
• On a free position shot, Gabrielle Battle brought the Lions within one. 
• The Purple Knights finished the quarter with their fourth goal of the game, and led 4-2. 

2nd Quarter
• A quick start for Saint Michael's, Ginnie Hamilton had her third of the game 45 seconds in.  
•  Within the next five minutes, the Purple Knights added on two more goals. 
•  After trailing 7-2, Gabrielle Battle started the Lions offense and had the first Lion goal of the quarter. 
• Saint Michael's continued their momentum and answered back quickly with their eighth goal of the game. 
• Lions ended the quarter on a 3-0 run and cut the lead to two goals going into the half. 

3rd Quarter
•  Purple Knights struck first just a minute into the half. 
• The Purple Knights would not score for the remainder of the quarter. 
• Lions added two more goals in the third and trailed by one. 

4th Quarter
• GCU found the net first this time and tied the game just a minute into the quarter. 
Erynn Richey, who tied the game, then also took the lead for GCU. 
• Thirty Seconds later, SMC tied the game with goal #10 of the game. 
Jill Konschak and Michaela Scirrotto each had a goal and gave the Lions a two-goal lead with five minutes remaining. 
Michaela Scirrotto, with three minutes remaining, had another goal, and GCU led by three.
• With 21 seconds remaining, SMC scored off a free position opportunity. 
• Ginnie Hamilton scored with 10 seconds left, and SMC trailed by one. 
• In the last few seconds, Addison Rivera of the Lions forced a turnover by Ginnie Hamilton, helping GCU secure a narrow 13–12 victory.

Michaela Scirrotto had three goals.
