Men's Basketball's Upset Bid Comes Up Just Short at Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del. (March 3, 2026) - Georgian Court Basketball was on the road looking to pull of an upset of the No. 2 seed Goldey-Beacom Lightning. In a back-and-forth game, the Lions took a second-half lead, but couldn't hang on as GBC escaped with a one-point win, 88-87. 

How it Happened
• Georgian Court finished the game shooting 48.4% overall, going 10-29 from three.
• The Lightning hit just as many three's, 10, and shot 46% from the floor.
• GCU shot well at the line, hitting 15-18. Goldey-Beacom hit 20 on 28 attempts.
• Goldey-Beacom had a big advantage rebounding the ball. They pulled down 43 to the Lions 27. That included 18 on the offensive glass where they scored 25 second-chance points.
• The Lions forced Goldey-Beacom into 16 turnovers and GCU took advantage with 21 points from those giveaways.

1st Half
• Georgian Court got down early as Goldey-Beacom came out strong. They doubled up GCU, 10-5, before extending it to nine, 16-7.
• Trailing by just six with under 12 to play, GBC scored five straight out of the media timeout to take their largest lead of the half, 25-14 as the Lions called a timeout.
• After the under eight media timeout, Amar Lane brought some life back to GCU with a thunderous dunk. That brought GCU back to single digits.
• A Lightning turnover on the following possession and Cam Edmonds scoring two at the line gave GCU six straight points and cut the lead in half to 28-22.
• GCU was heating up and Anthony Gooden made it a one-possession game with a three.
• Goldey-Beacom was issued a technical foul and Edmonds made one of two as the Lions also maintained possession. 
• The Lightning ended the Lions 12-0 run with a three-point play and led by five, 31-26, with 5:50 left in the half.
• Georgian Court stayed hot though and a steal and score from Gooden gave them their first lead, 35-34.
• Back down one, Edmonds hit consecutive threes, giving the Lions their largest lead, 43-38, with 1:25 remaining. That finished off a 27-10 run for the Lions. 
• The Lightning finished the half scoring six straight in the final 1:14 and led 44-43 at the half. 
• Over the final 8:08, Georgian Court was 9-13 overall, 3-5 from three, and forced six turnovers. 

2nd Half
• The second half started with the Lions taking the lead right back. Tesneem Ajeigbe with a block on one end and Crawford hits a three on the other.
• GCU scored the first seven points in the half, taking their largest lead, 50-44, less than two minutes in. 
• The Lightning responded with a 9-3 run and at the first media timeout of the half, the score was tied at 53. 
• Coming out of the break, Edmonds hit another three then two at the line putting the Lions back up by five. 
• Goldey-Beacom wasn't making it easy on the Lions. They used a 12-5 run to get back to within two, 71-69 with eight minutes left to play.
• The Lightning run continued. They scored eight straight to go back up five, 79-74, with less than five minutes in the game.
• Georgian Court's offense was getting back on track, but they were trading points with the Lightning as the clock was ticking. With 90 seconds left, it was still a five-point game, 85-80, GBC.
• Under a minute to go, Crawford tied the game at 85 with a three.
• Down the other end the Lightning hit an and-one to go back up three. 
Donald-James Imo made it a one-point game with a layup and the Lions needed to foul to extend the game.
• Goldey-Beacom missed the front end and GCU had the ball and nine seconds left trailing by one.
• A sideline out-of-bounds play got Crawford a look at the buzzer but it didn't fall and the Lightning escaped with the one-point win.

Lion Stat Leaders
Cam Edmonds led the Lions scoring 31 points on 8-18 shooting and 4-9 from three. He also dished out five assists, grabbed three rebounds and came up with two steals.
Donavin Crawford was 3-8 from three and scored 18 points. 
Donald-James Imo scored 11 points going 5-5 from the floor with five boards.
Taheen Braswell-Brown chipped in 10 points making a pair of three-pointers.

For the Lightning
• Tre Powell finished with a game-high 33 points. He finished with eight rebounds and five assists as well.
• Emarquis Jones recorded a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
• Julian Williams was in double-figures with 12 points and was a rebound-short of a double-double. 

News and Notes
• This was the Lions third CACC Tournament game. They fall to 0-3.
• The one-point loss was by far their closest loss in a tournament game. Both other games were losses by double-digits. 
Amar Lane grabbed his 100th rebound of the season.
Jacob Santiago played in his 50th career game.
Anthony Gooden scored his 150th point.
Cam Edmonds, the Lions all-time leading scorer, finishes his career with 1,608 points. His 31 points tonight, give him 10 career 30+ point games. 
Donavin Crawford finishes his career at 799 points which is eighth all-time in program history.
