Lions Fall in Pair of One-Run Games

HOCKESSIN, Del. (April 3, 2026) - Georgian Court Baseball may be going home with two losses, but they sure put a scare into CACC leaders Goldey-Beacom. The Lightning had trouble all day putting the Lions away, but were able to do just enough to squeak out a pair of one-run wins, 8-7 and 4-3.

Game 1 - Goldey-Beacom 8, Georgian Court 7 - 11 Innings
How it Happened

• Goldey-Beacom scored eight runs on 16 hits, including six extra-base hits.
• The Lions picked up seven runs on nine hits with four doubles.
• Both teams were in double-figures for strikeouts. The Lions fanned 14 times and the Lightning 11.
• GBC made two errors and allowed an unearned run. The Lions made just one error in the field and didn't allow an unearned run to score.
• Goldey-Beacom got a run in their first trip to the plate. They led off the bottom of the first with a double and that run came in to score on a wild pitch.
• GBC threatened with a two-out rally in the second. After retiring the first two hitters, three straight singles loaded the bases but Donovan Gevers got a ground ball to end the inning unharmed.
• The Lightning's second run scored just like the first. A two-out wild pitch brought in a run and it was a 2-0 GBC lead after three innings.
• Georgian Court evened the game in the fourth as JR Osmond and Brian Guzman picked up consecutive RBI hits.
• It didn't stay tied very long as a Lightning two-run home run in the bottom of the inning put GBC back up by two, 4-2.
• They made it 5-2 an inning later as back-to-back doubles down the left field line plated a run.
• The Lions had an excellent chance for a big inning in the sixth. They loaded the bases with nobody out, but the only run to score came on a double play and one batter later the inning was over.
• Georgian Court took their first lead with a three-run eighth inning. They loaded the bases with one out before Zinny Kemahu drove a two-RBI double to center, tying the game.
• One batter later, Jack Osmond drove home the go-ahead run with an opposite field single.
• Three outs away from a win, Georgian Court allowed the first two batters of the inning to reach base.
Ryan Basham entered into a difficult situation and even though a sacrifice fly tied the game, he was able to strand the winning run on third base.
• In the 10th, Matt DiOttavio gave GCU the lead back with a pinch hit, two-out RBI single to right.
• Goldey-Beacom responded right away with a home run leading off the bottom of the inning and the game continued.
• It lasted just one more inning though. After GCU went scoreless in the top of the 11th, the Lions didn't retire a batter in the bottom of the inning and a bases-loaded single brought in the game-winning run.

Lion Stat Leaders
Donovan Gevers threw the first five innings allowing five runs on 11 hits while striking out five and didn't walk a batter.
Jack Osmond was on base three times with a single, double and a walk. He also drove in a run.
Zinny Kemahu plated two with a double.
JR Osmond scored three times, reaching on a double, walk and two hit-by-pitches.
Ely Houston threw three innings in relief allowing a run on two hits while striking out five.

For the Lightning
• George Starr allowed three runs on six hits over six innings, striking out seven batters.
• Roman Keith had a three-hit day and scored twice.
• Jake Macey had a the walk-off hit as part of a three-hit afternoon. He drove in three runs.
• Brent Williams homered and drove in two runs.
• Zach Smethers finished 2-5 with a home run and two runs scored.

Game 2 - Goldey-Beacom 4, Georgian Court 3 - 7 Innings
How it Happened

• Georgian Court had chances, but left 10 runners on base. GBC stranded just four.
• The Lightning made four errors in the game and all three GCU runs were unearned. The Lions played a clean game in the field.
• Both teams knocked five hits. Three of the Lightning's five were for extra bases, while John Smith had both GCU extra-base hits.
• Strikeouts reared their ugly head for Georgian Court who struck out 11 times. Both teams walked four times and GBC struck out four times as well.
• Georgian Court was opportunistic in game two and it started right away. The game started with Frankie Noviello reaching on a fielding error. He came in to score an unearned run as John Smith's double stayed fair down the left field line.
• Three batters into the bottom of the first, the Lightning had a lead of their own. GCU walked the leadoff batter then a triple and a double plated two runs.
• A double-play helped Samir Lopez get out of the inning allowing just the two to score.
• In the third, GBC scored two more as game-one hero, Jake Macey, lifted a home run to left, bringing in two runs for a 4-1 lead.
• The game stayed that way until the fifth when the Lightning's defense again opened the door for Georgian Court to get closer. Again it was John Smith taking advantage. After an error allowed the inning to continue, Smith drove a triple to right center, bringing in two runs and making it a 4-3 ball game.
• Georgian Court was set to tie the game in the seventh and final inning, getting the first two on base. But Cody Klotz entered for the Lightning, struck out the first two batters he faced and got a fly ball to end the game, 4-3.

Lion Stat Leaders
Samir Lopez threw 100 pitches over five innings allowing four runs on five hits while striking out three.
John Smith drove in all three Lion runs with a double and a triple and went 2-4.
Frankie Noviello was on base three times with two singles and a walk.
Frank Marra singled, walked and scored a run.
Cooper DeLaBarre needed just 10 pitches to throw a 1-2-3 sixth inning with a strikeout.

For the Lightning
• Connor Blence was the winning pitcher. He allowed three unearned runs on five hits while striking out nine.
• Jake Macey walked twice and homered and brought in two runs.
• Bobby Stewart was a home run shy of the cycle and scored twice.
• Cody Klotz retired three straight with two strikeouts to earn the save.

• Georgian Court got the leadoff hitter on in nine of 18 innings.
Frankie Noviello was on base five times in 10 at bats.
• GCU pitchers struck out a season-high 11 batters in game one.
