Lakewood, N.J. - The Georgian Court University men's soccer team showed tremendous mettle and grit in a 2-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to #9 Post University Saturday afternoon on Investors Savings Bank Field.
The contest marked the young program's first vs. a nationally-ranked opponent.
Post (11-1-1, 9-1 CACC) took an initial 1-0 at 12:13 after Georgian Court goalkeeper
Rylan Gentil made a dazzling, diving save of a
Joe Baccielo penalty kick.
Raphael Moura secured the rebound off Gentil's mitts and dished off to
Terrell Whitting who proceeded to deposit the pass for his fourth goal of the year.
The score stayed that way until 80:50 when
Francisco Sastre scored his seventh of the season, courtesy of a
Jose Monterroza feed.
The Eagles outshot the host-Lions, 13-5, and owned an 8-5 advantage in penalty kicks.
The Lions, winless in their last six, fall to 5-9-1 on the year (2-7-1 CACC). Gentil (5-8-1) collected seven saves in the GCU net while Eagles' goalkeeper
Andre Lindsay secured three saves to improve to 10-1-1 for Post.
Georgian Court returns to the pitch Tuesday afternoon with a non-conference contest at Queens College. Start time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
