Lakewood, NJ- The Georgian Court University men's soccer team enjoyed their first senior day in the program's young history Saturday as
Ben Vergara (Toms River, NJ) and
Rylan Gentil (Poseyville, Ind.) were honored in a pre-game celebration prior to the team's match with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent, Caldwell University.
The Lions jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as
Eddy Glover (Oxford, UK) buried a penalty kick to the lower left corner in the 19th minute. The Cougars were able to equalize in the 42nd minute as
Patrick Grey converted a header off a service by
Tomas Carvalho. The score remained tied until the 52nd when
Christian Castro finished a
Steve Petrosino cross to put the Cougars up by a goal. Petrosino was not done as just 57 seconds late,r he finished a one-timer from Castro to complete the scoring at 3-1.
For the Lions the loss dropped them to 3-10-2 (3-6-1 CACC) while the Cougars improve to 10-5 (7-4 CACC).
For Vergara and Gentil, they will forever be remembered in the program's history as Vergara scored the program's first-ever goal against East Stroudsburg University on September 6th, 2013. Gentil was credited with the program's first-ever win in that same game, a 3-0 victory for the Lions.
The team will next take the pitch on Tuesday October 28th as they take on Wilmington University in Delaware. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30pm.
