Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University men's soccer team, staring defeat in the eyes, did the improbable Thursday afternoon as the Lions netted a game-tying goal with one second remaining in regulation as GCU secured a 1-1 tie vs. visiting Chestnut Hill College in a crucial Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) showdown on Investors Savings Bank Field.

In an extremely physical affair that had the two squads combine for 47 total fouls and nine yellow cards, the scoreboard illuminated zeroes until the 82nd minute of play (81:11) when Nicholas Jaffe (Sr.-Sao Paulo, Brazil) blasted a shot to the lower left of the net, providing the Griffins (0-2-1, 0-0-1 CACC) with the 1-0 advantage.

 It appeared Chestnut Hill would escape with the conference road triumph as Griffins' keeper James Jackson (So.-Sewell, N.J.) booted the ball past midfield with 26 ticks left on the clock. However, the Lions (0-1-2, 0-0-1 CACC) composed themselves, quickly charging down the pitch to set up the tying score off the foot of Michael Clarke (So.-Essex, UK) at 89:59, which erupted the GCU faithful.

The two exhausted clubs went on to play a pair of 10-minute overtime sessions that resulted in seven total shots, but no game-winning tally.

Jackson secured four saves on 10 GCU shots (5 on net) over 110:00 in the Chestnut Hill goal. Rylan Gentil (Sr.-Poseyville, Ind.) collected five saves on 16 shots (six shots on goal) in the complete-game effort in the GCU net.

Channing Couillard (Sr.Atlantic Beach, Fla.) provided the assist on CHC's go-ahead score while Kevin Isvanditsch (Jr.-Toms River, N.J.) did the same on Clarke's effort. 

GCU will next take the field Saturday afternoon when the Lions host American International College in non-conference play. Start time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
