Two in a Row for Men's Soccer as Lions Double Up Holy Family, 4-2

Jordan Eugenis
Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University men's soccer squad remains undefeated (2-0-1) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition after winning its second straight contest Wednesday aftenoon, a 4-2 triumph over Holy Family University on Investors Savings Bank Field.

The Lions, with the win, improve to 2-3-2 overall on the year while the visiting Tigers dip to 1-4-3 (0-3-2 CACC).

It took the Lions just 3:43 to light up the scoreboard when Michael Clarke (So.-Essex, UK) ripped home an errant rebound to net his fourth goal of the season. Holy Family's Christopher Tracey (So.-Abington, Pa.) knotted the contest just over two minutes later (5:57) after heading home a Justin Hiltwine (So.-Philadelphia, Pa.) corner kick for his first goal of the year.

The Tigers were able to secure a 2-1 advantage in the 29th minute (28:52) courtesy of a Tom Kostick (Jr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) penalty kick. The Holy Family lead held until the 49th minute (48:49) when GCU's Jordan Eugenis (Wayside, N.J.) netted his first collegiate goal off a loose rebound.

Ben Vergara (Sr.-Toms River, N.J.) put Georgian Court up for good at 57:26 after one-timing a Clarke pass for his fourth tally of the campaign. The Lions' lone senior iced the victory for the home team with 44 ticks remaining (89:16) when he drove home a penalty kick to make the score 4-2. Vergara's five goals ties for second among conference players.

Sebastian Mikuska (So.-Augsburg, Germany) improved to 2-0 as Georgian Court's netminder as he gathered five saves in the complete-game effort. Richard Ongaro (Jr.-Columbus, N.J.) provided a valiant performance for the Tigers, collecting 10 saves in the setback.

GCU outshot its guests, 22-11, and owned an 8-6 advantage when it came to corner kicks.

Georgian Court looks to make it three in a row this Saturday when the Lions host Felician College at 2:30 p.m. in a special Homecoming Day contest.
