Shippensburg, Pa.- The Georgian Court University men's soccer team, playing the second season-opener in program history, battled to a 1-1, double-overtime draw Friday afternoon vs. Seton Hill University in game one of the Shippensburg University Soccer Classic.
The first 29 minutes of action proved to be a chess game of systems and matchups until GCU goalkeeper
Rylan Gentil (Sr.-Poseyville, Ind.) sent a ball upfield that earned a throw-in for the Lions.
Jordan Eugenis (So.-Wayside, N.J.) proceeded to provide a perfect hurl to
Garrett McVeigh (So.-Cherry Hill, N.J.) who, in turn, slotted a left-footed pass to an oncoming
Sebastian Gostynski (So.-Garfield, N.J.) for the first goal of the game (15:42).
The Griffins (0-0-1) countered at 64:15 when Seton Hill's
Bovey Masiole (Gr.-Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania) outjumped the Georgian Court backline on a corner kick from the left and headed home the equalizer.
Seton Hill outshot the Lions, 3-0, in overtime, but none of the efforts could snap the tie. Gentil tallied 3 saves on 18 total shots by the Griffins while Seton Hill's
Cameron Evans (Jr.-Bedfordshire, UK) collected one save on six total shots by GCU.
The Lions (0-0-1) will next face host-Shippensburg University (1-0) on Sunday September 7th in game two of the invitational. Start time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
