GCU Men Sunk by Shippensburg, 3-0, in Sunday Soccer Action

Shippensburg, Pa.- The Georgian Court University men's soccer squad concluded the opening weekend of the 2014 campaign with a 3-0 setback to Shippensburg University Sunday afternoon as a part of the Shippensburg Soccer Classic.

The Raiders (2-0) took an initial 1-0 lead at 16:32 when Fred Lucas (Sr.-San Jose, Costa Rica) netted his first goal of the year after a keeper mishap set up the scoring opportunity. Exactly 16 minutes later, (32:32), Patrick Urmson (Sr.-Rauma, Finland) finished a cross that earned both Lucas and Josh Gannon (Sr. Chester, UK) and assist and made the score 2-0.

The third and final tally for the Warriors occurred at 55:55 when Robert Furfaro (So.-Chambersburg, Pa.) sent in a cross from Derrick Roy (Sr.-Seven Valleys, Pa.). Shippensburg  earned a 28-6 shot advantage and attempted four more corner kicks (11-7) than the Lions (0-0-1).

Warriors goalkeeper Evan Raimst (So.-Woodsboro, Md.) earned the shutout victory with two saves in the complete-game showing. GCU's Rylan Gentil (Sr.-Poseyville, Ind.) suffered the loss in the GCU net, permitting two goals (two saves) in 45:00 of action.

The Lions return home to host CACC-rival Chestnut Hill College Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
