Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University men's soccer program, playing its first home contest of the 2015 campaign, blanked visiting Dowling College, 2-0, Tuesday afternoon on Investors Savings Bank Field.
The Lions, winners of two straight, even their record at 2-2 as GCU secured its fifth overall shutout (1st in 2015) in what is now the team's third season of competition. The Golden Lions, which were NCAA Division II National Champions as recently as 2006, remain winless on the year at 0-4.
Georgian Court commenced the scoring in the 43rd minute of action (42:47) when
Spencer Dunn netted his first collegiate goal after the freshman collected a
Will Green feed and deposited the attempt, puttting the Lions ahead, 1-0.
Michael Clarke, GCU's leading goal scorer, added the home team's second tally when the junior sent in a
Ricardo Vascones helper at 57:05, good enough for his team-leading third goal of the season.
Georgian Court owned a slim 7-6 shot advantage while Dowling doubled up the Lions, 8-4, in corner kick attempts.
Aleksandar Milosevic authored his first shutout as a Lion, denying four shots in the 90-minute effort.
GCU stays home and will return to the pitch this Saturday when they host CACC-rival Bloomfield College at 2:30 p.m.
