Lakewood, N.J.- Their record may state otherwise, but the Georgian Court University men's lacrosse squad continues to demonstrate they have the heart of a champion. This was certainly the case in Thursday's contest vs. visiting Lincoln Memorial University as the Lions battled to the final horn in the eventual 16-10 setback.
Typically sluggish in the first period of play this season, the Lions (0-9) came out energized by netting five of the contest's first goals to build a solid 5-1 advantage by the 13:09 mark of the second session. LMU countered with three straight to cut the deficit to 5-4 with 8:01 left.
GCU's
CJ Francisco poured in his second of the half to put the Lions ahead, 6-4, (6:34) before the Railsplitters buried three in a row to grab a 7-6 advantage. However, it would be Francisco to save Georgian Court's day yet again as the junior completed the first-half hat trick by tying the affair at 7-7 (1:11) just before intermission.
Lincoln Memorial (4-3) commenced the second half with a three-goal spurt to go ahead, 10-7. The Lions would secure two of the next three scoring efforts to slice the score to 11-9 with 13:58 remaining, but the visitors would put the game out of reach with a four-goal flurry to go up, 15-9.
Dylan Neisler (So.-Detroit, Mich.) served as LMU's top scoring threat with five goals on the afternoon.
Kyle Arcuri (Fr.-Patchogue, N.Y.) added five points with two goals and three assists while
Billy Kopsky (So.-Smithtown, N.Y.) contributed a goal and three helpers.
Francisco dazzled for the Lions with a six-point effort, including four goals and two assists.
Connor Houghton added four of his own with a goal and three assists.
LMU's
Joe Medel (Jr.-Virginia Beach, Va.) improved to 4-3 on the season with 10 saves over 60:00 of action. His counterpart,
Logan Eisenhart, collected 15 saves in the Lions' net.
Georgian Court takes to the road four its next four outings, beginning with a game at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday, April 1 (3:30 p.m.)
