Georgian Court Men's Soccer on Short End of Wild 6-3 Affair at New Haven

West Haven, Conn.- In what may be the craziest contest thus far in the young history of the Georgian Court University men's soccer squad, the Lions, after owning a 2-0 advantage at intermission Wednesday, were outscored 6-1 in the second stanza en route to dropping a 6-3 decision at the University of New Haven in NCAA Division II non-conference action.

GCU kicked off the scoring early in the first half when Arturo Sanchez collected an Elliot Baldwin rebound and drove home his first tally of the year just 6:48 into the game. The Lions continued to roll as Sean Graham popped in his first of the season, also courtesy of a Baldwin helper, at 26:28.

The momentum shifted to the side of the Chargers (3-0) quickly in the second half as Mason Rivera (Jr.-Preston, Conn.) headed in a free kick from 30 yards out to put the home team on the board at 47:49. Rob Poirer (Sr.-Old Lyme, Conn.) knotted the score at 2-2 when he sent in his third of the year at 58:12.

Ricardo Vascones proceeded to provide an offensive jolt for GCU at 60:15 as his first goal of the season reclaimed the lead for the vistors at 3-2. That advantage would last a grand total of 30 seconds for the Lions as New Haven's Mohamed Djalo (Fr.-Bissau, Guinea-Bissau) buried his first collegiate goal (and first of two on the day) off a redirect at 60:45 to tie the score at 3-3.

The Chargers would complete the comeback at 72:42 when Evans Kussi (So.-Udine, Italy) sent a cross to the top left corner for the eventual game-winner.

Both clubs attempted 12 shots apiece with the Chargers owning a 4-3 margin on corner kicks.

Stefano Larusso (Fr.-Auckland, New Zealand) gathered six saves over 90:00 between the New Haven pipes to earn the victory. GCU's Aleksander Milosevic secured one save for GCU in 79:57 of action.

The Lions will next travel to Bloomfield College this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. to kick off CACC conference play.
