Philadelphia, Pa. - For the fourth consecutive season, the Georgian Court University women's volleyball squad experienced an extended stay at Chestnut Hill College as the Lions and Griffins played to yet another five-set final.
The home team took the first two sets by matching 25-21 scores before the Lions roared back with wins of 25-21 and 26-24 to push a fifth-and-final frame. In a nail-biting session, it would be the Griffins that would soar to the victory, sealing the deal with a 16-14 surplus.
Three Lions authored double-doubles in the marathon match, including
Peggy Rosario (13 kills, 19 digs),
Aubrey Binkley (12 kills, 21 digs) and
Jackie Sweeney (17 assists, 12 digs).
Amy Bruno clubbed 11 kills for GCU while putting down eight blocks.
Ashley Pierson (25 assists, nine digs) and
Gaby Merced (22 digs, nine assists) fell just short of their own double-double efforts.
Georgian Court now prepares for two matches this Saturday as the Lions partake in a tri-match vs. host-Bloomfield College (12 p.m.) and Mercy College (2:00 p.m.).
