Georgian Court Men Rebound With Clutch 5-3 Conference Victory at Nyack

Nyack, N.Y. - The Georgian Court University men's soccer squad, coming off a deflating 3-0 loss to Goldey-Beacom College Wednesday, rebounded Saturday with a clutch 5-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road victory at Nyack College.

With the win, the Lions improve to 6-3-1 in CACC play (9-4-2 overall) and end the day ranked fifth in the conference standings. The host-Warriors slip to 6-7-1 (4-6 CACC) on the season.

GCU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, commenced by Joel Quist's third goal of the season just 5:17 into the contest. After assisting on the initial tally, Daniel Vicente followed with a goal of his own as the junior deflected a shot over the Nyack goalkeeper at 35:19 to also earn his third of the year.

The Warriors, not to be outdone, rallied to tie the contest at 2-all before intermission as Finn Reese (Hamburg, Germany) took matters upon himself and rattled home a pair of unassisted scoring efforts. The senior scored his 14th of the year at 37:57 after intercepting a failed pass back to the goalkeeper by the GCU defense. Reese followed with #15, which came in the form of a penalty kick, at 43:35.

Francois Legoedec (Sr.-Rouen, France) put the home team ahead in the 54th minute (53:16) after connecting on an Anton Teetzmann (Fr.-Berlin, Germany)  feed for his third score of the year. The Nyack lead would hold until the 66th (65:48) when Vicente drilled his second of the afternoon to knot the score at 3-3.

Vinicius Monteiro proceeded to deposit what would prove to be the game-winner less than two minutes later (67:22) when the junior booted home a Will Green through-ball to put the guests ahead, 4-3. Alexander Clark sent home his first tally as a Lion at 81:28, after a post-corner kick scrum, to ice the proverbial cake for GCU.

The Lions dominated in the shots column with an advantage of 27-7 (16-5 on goal). Yianni Kavarakas (7-4-2) earned the win between the Georgian Court pipes with two saves over 90:00 of action.

Georgian Court returns to campus next Saturday to host Post University at 2:30 p.m. The Lions will honor their seniors prior to the first whistle with a special Senior Day celebration as George Kavarakas, Sean GrahamGustavo Gomez, Nick Claudeo, Brandon EvansJacob Rush and Tyler Chamra play their final regular-season varsity home game.
