Lakewood, N.J. - In a rematch of the 2016 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship game, it would be Post University's turn to prevail as the visiting Eagles escaped Georgian Court University with a 1-0 defeat of the host-Lions.
Alvaro Sanchez (Fr.-Madrid, Spain) crunched a nifty back-heel pass from
Eden Gendler (Fr.-Haifa, Israel)Â into the upper right of the GCU net, providing what would be the game-winner just 17:26 into the contest.
The Lions, despite the setback, still outshot the Eagles, 17-11 (4-3 on frame).
Giovanni Riello (Sr.-Sao Paulo, Brazil) earned the victory in the Post goal, gathering four saves in the effort.
Georgian Court, which honored its senior class of
Tyler Chamra,
Gustavo Gomez,
Sean Graham,
George Kavarakas andÂ
Jacob Rush prior to the contest, falls to 9-5-2 (6-4-1 CACC) after the loss. The Eagles soar to 7-7 (6-5 CACC) with the always-tough road win.
GCU closes out the regular-season slate Wednesday afternoon with a conference match at Holy Family University (3-13, 2-9 CACC). Start time is set for 3:30 p.m. The Lions have already clinched its second-straight postseason berth and will play on Monday, October 30 in the CACCÂ Quarterfinals vs. a to-be-determined foe.
