Men's Basketball Underway After Pair of Weekend Contests in Bentley University Tip-Off Classic

Waltham, Mass.- The Georgian Court University men's basketball season is officially underway as the Lions lifted the lid on the 2017-18 campaign with a pair of weekend outings in the Bentley University Tip-Off Classic.

GCU opened the schedule Saturday evening with a 103-54 setback to the host-Falcons before concluding the tournament by falling to Saint Anselm College, 71-48.

Bentley never trailed in the season-opener, achieving its game-high surplus of 51 points (103-52) with 42 seconds remaining in the contest. The Falcons shot a cool 53(%) from the floor (38-for-72) while the Lions hit 20-of-64 (31%) field goal attempts.

Four Bentley ballers eclipsed double-digits in the scoring column, led by Colton Lawrence (Fr.-Myerstown, Pa.) with 15 points in 17 minutes off the bench. Nikola Vujovic and Caleb Bowser topped the Lions with 11 points apiece.

After leading by just seven at the half (35-28), Saint Anselm College (1-1) more than doubled that advantage in the second session by outscoring the Lions, 36-20, en route to Sunday afternoon's non-conference victory.

Four Hawks collected 10+ points in the effort, topped by a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double performance by Tim Guers (Jr.-Langhorne, Pa.). Teammate Cody Ball (Jr.-Londonderry, N.H.) also poured in 21 points, shooting 8-for-17 from the floor and 5-for-9 from beyond the three-point arc.

Tony Ellington, Jr. and Bowser drained 12 points each for the Lions. Sean Barksdale topped the team with 10 boards and five blocks.

Georgian Court (0-2) now prepares for its 2017 home opener this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. when the Lions host Bloomsburg University in non-conference action.
