Lakewood, N.J. - The Georgian Court University men's basketball squad, up by 12 with 10:08 remaining in regulation, could not hold on as visiting Bloomsburg University outscored the Lions, 29-6, the rest of the way to escape the Wellness Center with a 70-59 non-conference triumph Wednesday evening.
GCU, playing in its first home contest of the 2017-18 campaign, falls to 0-3 while the Huskies increase their mark to 2-0.
Bloomsburg kept the home team in close proximity with a slim 25-24 advantage at intermission. The Lions came out hungry in the second stanza, outscoring their opponent 29-16 over the first 10:00 of the period before the Huskies sniffed out a solution and put a cork in the GCU offense en route to the always-satisfying road win.
Neither club shot especially well from the floor with both Bloomsburg (32.8%) and Georgian Court (37.3%) making less than 38% of their field-goal attempts.
Christian Mortellite (Sr.-Hammonton, N.J.) shined the brightest on this evening as the Bloomsburg forward collected a neat 25-point, 10-board double-double in 38 total minutes.
Kyle-Michael Rose (Sr.-Middletown, Del.) and
Austin Harriott (So.-Philadelphia, Pa.) sank 14 points apiece for the Huskies.
GCU's
Caleb Bowser enjoyed his third-straight double-digit point output to start the year as the sophomore poured in a team-high 19 on the night, complemented by his squad-topping eight boards.
Omar Williams exploded for a season-best 18 points in the transfer junior's 37 minutes of action.
The Lions next journey to Rochester, N.Y. this Saturday to take on Roberts Wesleyan College at 4:00 p.m. That game will be followed by a showdown vs. Mercy College (hosted by RWC) Sunday at 2:00 p.m.Â
