Title Drought Over! Lions Clinch Quenching 4-1 Triumph to Earn First CACC Crown Since 2010

Lakewood, N.J. - The Georgian Court University women's soccer squad clinched its first Central Atlantic Collegiate crown in seven years Sunday afternoon as the top-seeded Lions cruised past #2 Wilmington University, 4-1, to secure the third crown of the Jim Moore era (2008, 2010).

GCU (16-3-2), undefeated over its last 15 straight contests (14-0-1), now awaits its next match which will be in the 2017 NCAA East Regional Tournament. The bracket will be released Monday evening.

After a scoreless first half, the Lions attacked for the contest's initial goal when Rosa Franze headed forward a pass off a short goal kick that Heather Arbachesky gathered and clubbed home at 48:03. Arbachesky added GCU's second tally at 74:48 when the junior deposited a penalty kick (handball) for her ninth goal of the season.

Dana Fontana got into the mix less than three minutes later (77:20) when the sophomore creamed a Kaitlin Lister feed from 20 yards out to secure her fifth goal of the year. Fontana returned for an encore at 80:48 when she popped in her sixth of the season off an initial save by Wilmington keeper, Kierstyn Williams (Sr.-Middletown, Del.).

In an evenly contested match, the Lions outshot the Wildcats by an 18-12 margin (10-8 on goal). Natalie Axelsson collected seven hard-fought saves in net for GCU. Williams corralled six in the senior's final career game.

As a result of her stellar showing, Arbachesky earned Most Valuable Player honors. Axelsson, Lister, Anissia Fucci, and Meagan Murdocco also received All-Tournament Team accolades.
